Fiji’s Bula Pass: build the island holiday before choosing the days

The model six-night Monday-to-Sunday island trip needs seven pass days, counting both travel days. Six and seven days share the dated direct price. Reserve boats and accommodation separately; a return to Port Denarau ends use even with days remaining.

Build the island stays before choosing pass days

A Bula Pass makes the most sense when the boat is connecting several island stays, with your beds and travel dates arranged together. It buys transport on the Yasawa Flyer route, not a room waiting at every beach. The particularly important rule is that returning to Port Denarau ends the pass, even if its printed duration has days left.

The six-night Monday-to-Sunday trip below needs seven pass days, because both travel days count. At the operator’s AUD prices checked on 21 October 2026, seven days cost the same as six, so the shorter option wouldn’t save money and would leave the calendar a day short.

What sort of holiday does it suit?

The Bula Pass covers five to 15 days of transfers along the Yasawa Flyer route, with accommodation bought separately. That gives you room to choose different properties and room types as you work your way through the islands. It does not make every hotel, boat or activity in Fiji part of one ticket.

The distinction matters if your mental itinerary is a week at one resort with a few excursions. Don’t buy a multi-day transport pass merely because the holiday lasts a week. For that style of stay, book the resort’s return transfer and the particular excursions you want. The Bula Pass is a more relevant purchase when changing your island base is part of the holiday itself; we haven’t established a universal saving over separate tickets for every route.

There is also little reward in moving every day simply because the pass allows more journeys. Unpacking is not normally the activity that persuaded anyone to book Fiji. Two nights in each place gives you a complete day between arrival and departure, rather than turning every morning into another checkout.

A seven-day pass can connect six island nights

Here’s a planning example for Monday 2 to Sunday 8 November 2026. It uses three resorts listed by the operator on its Yasawa route, but it is not a claim that rooms or transfers have been reserved or are available on those dates.

DateJourney or stayAccommodation needed that night
Monday 2 November, day onePort Denarau to Barefoot KuataBarefoot Kuata
Tuesday 3 November, day twoStay at KuataBarefoot Kuata
Wednesday 4 November, day threeMove to Barefoot MantaBarefoot Manta
Thursday 5 November, day fourStay at Barefoot MantaBarefoot Manta
Friday 6 November, day fiveMove to Blue Lagoon Beach ResortBlue Lagoon Beach Resort
Saturday 7 November, day sixStay at Blue LagoonBlue Lagoon Beach Resort
Sunday 8 November, day sevenReturn to Port DenarauMainland accommodation, if staying overnight

This gives you six island nights and three complete days without a transfer: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It also makes the bookings manageable. You need four boat journeys and three two-night accommodation reservations, with each property’s checkout date matching the next one’s arrival date.

The stops offer different settings. Barefoot Kuata sits at the gateway to the Yasawas, with volcanic mountains and a marine protected area. Barefoot Manta is on Drawaqa Island, with three beaches and a marine biology team. The Blue Lagoon resort offers a beach and lagoon setting further into the route. These are reasons to linger, not activities automatically included with the transport pass. In particular, Barefoot Manta advertises its manta-ray swimming season as May to October, so this November calendar should not be sold as a promised manta trip.

Book the room category and its meals separately from the Bula Pass. A transport price cannot tell you what the entire holiday costs, and a resort’s advertised two-day package may already include transport you would otherwise be buying twice.

Count back from the return boat

The operator’s direct prices checked on 21 October 2026 are below. They are per person in Australian dollars, under the published tariff effective 26 August 2026 to 31 March 2027 for travel from 1 September 2026.

Pass durationPublished price
5 daysA$422
6 or 7 daysA$442
8 daysA$482
9 or 10 daysA$501
11 daysA$545
12 daysA$565
13 daysA$585
14 daysA$604
15 daysA$624

For the example above, the seven-day transport component is A$442 per person. The booking terms specify a 3% international-card administration fee, while the product page gives a 2.5–3% range. Budgeting at the stated 3% makes that A$455.26 per person, or A$910.52 for two. Those figures cover the pass and that fee, not the accommodation, meals or activities.

Adding Sunday night at Blue Lagoon and returning on Monday 9 November creates an eight-day trip. At these published prices, the pass difference is A$40 per person before the applicable card fee. If you already know you want that seventh island night, choose eight days when booking; a seven-day pass does not last until you’ve used seven boat journeys.

The terms allow an extension by paying the difference before the pass expires. Make that change while the pass is still active through the onboard travel desk or reservations team, together with the revised boat and room bookings. An extra hotel night alone does not extend the ticket. If the pass has already expired, the terms provide for an additional sector fare instead.

Keep Port Denarau for the end of the island trip

A different itinerary might return to Denarau on Friday, stay on the mainland for two nights and head out again on Sunday. Do not buy a longer Bula Pass expecting it to cover both outings. The first return to Denarau ends its use, so the second departure needs a separate transport booking.

For a continuous island-hopping holiday, keep the mainland return at the end. If a mainland break is something you actively want, price it as two outings rather than rearranging the holiday around a benefit the pass doesn’t provide. Within the Mamanucas, the terms include South Sea Island only; other Mamanuca resorts are not added merely because the same company operates their boats.

Reserve the movements, then enjoy the days between them

Have accommodation booked for every night you disembark. Arrange the vessel reservations at least 24 hours before travel, using the stricter advance-reservation wording in the operator’s terms. For the example, booking all four journeys alongside the three stays before departure is simpler than leaving the next bed to an onboard conversation. The onboard desk is useful for changes, but accepts cards rather than cash.

The current departure information has the Yasawa Flyer leaving Port Denarau at 8.45 am, with check-in 30 minutes earlier. Be there by 8.15 am. Its return is described as around 6 pm, so plan the example’s Sunday night on the mainland rather than treating that approximate arrival as a guaranteed connection to an international flight.

Save the boat reservations, resort names, dates and contact details offline before leaving. If you need app data for resort messages or changed arrangements, our Fiji eSIM buying guide compares our fixed-data allowances with local tourist options. Choose for the islands on your route; a Fiji listing alone does not establish reception at each resort or at sea.

With the return date, four boat journeys and six island nights accounted for, the pass has a clear job. The rest of the week can involve considerably less counting.
