Land first. Then install your eSIM.
Buy before travel and save the SIM Shop setup email, but do not tap quick install, scan, enter manual details, install or activate before departure. After landing, use airport Wi-Fi only after you can sign in and open a normal webpage. If that does not work, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection. Follow the email on the intended phone only then.
Keep the setup email, not the install button. Save it before your flight, then open it after landing once you can sign in to airport Wi-Fi and open a normal webpage. If that does not work, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection. This page gives you the steps to follow.
Nothing happens before landing.
This is for customers who already have setup details. Before travel, check the phone and save the email. Do not begin the eSIM install until you have landed.
Before your flight
Check the phone supports eSIM and is not locked to another provider. Save the setup email somewhere easy to find. Do not scan its QR code or tap quick install.
Open compatibility checkerWhen you land
Use airport Wi-Fi only after you can sign in and open a normal webpage. If that does not work, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection before you ask the phone to download an eSIM.
Use the setup email
It holds the QR code, quick-install link or manual details for that exact eSIM. Use the option it provides. Do not borrow settings, an APN or a QR code from another guide.
If Wi-Fi is fussy
Do not push ahead on weak mobile data. Use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection instead, then come back to the email and carry on from there.
Do not delete an installed eSIM unless support asks you to.
Follow this trail after you land.
First, use airport Wi-Fi only after you can sign in and open a normal webpage. If that does not work, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection. Then open the email, follow the phone steps, and test mobile data last.
-
1
Sign in to airport Wi-Fi, then test it.
Use airport Wi-Fi only after you can sign in and open a normal webpage. If that does not work, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection. Do not start with weak mobile data.
-
2
Open the setup email on the right device.
Use the phone that will use the travel data. If the email gives a QR code, open it on another screen to scan. If it gives a quick-install link, use that link only after you have landed.
-
3
Use the matching phone path below.
iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, Motorola and Xiaomi use different labels. Follow only the card for the exact phone in your hand. For OPPO, OnePlus or another Android, use the current manual for that exact model and sales region. Stop if that manual does not show eSIM setup.
-
4
Confirm the travel line, then switch data.
Label it Travel eSIM if the phone asks. Select that line for Mobile Data. Turn Data Roaming on only for that travel line when the setup email says to, and keep Australian-SIM roaming off unless you deliberately want your usual roaming.
Land ready.
Pick the phone in your hand.
These are the actual places to start. Labels can move a little with software updates, so follow the closest matching label and use only the QR code or manual details in your own setup email.
Add your travel eSIM on iPhone
Use this after you have landed and can sign in to airport Wi-Fi and open a normal webpage. If that does not work, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection.
- Open Settings, then the mobile menu called Mobile Service, Mobile Data or Cellular.
- Tap Add eSIM, Add Mobile Plan or Set Up Mobile Service.
- Use the QR code from another screen, the supplied quick-install link, or Enter Details Manually only when the email gives the exact fields. Continue only when a new line assigned to this order appears. If it does not or an error is shown, keep any eSIM already listed, do not delete or rescan anything, and contact support with the exact error but no QR code or activation details.
- Open the assigned travel line and turn on Turn On This Line, then open Mobile Data and select that travel eSIM. Turn Allow Mobile Data Switching off, keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off and turn travel-line Data Roaming on only if the setup email requires it.
Check: The travel eSIM appears as a separate line and is selected for Mobile Data.
Add your travel eSIM on Samsung
Samsung labels vary by model and software version, so both current and earlier labels are shown.
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager, or SIM card manager on earlier software.
- Tap Add eSIM, or Add mobile plan on earlier software, then Scan QR code or Scan carrier QR code.
- Continue only when a new line assigned to this order appears. If no line appears or an error is shown, do not rescan or delete anything. Take a cropped error screenshot, hide the QR, activation code or link, full setup email, EID, IMEI and ICCID, and keep it ready. Contact support with the exact error wording. Only send the screenshot if support asks for it.
- Turn on only that identified travel eSIM, choose it for Mobile data and turn Auto data switching off. Keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off.
Check: The travel eSIM is enabled and named as the Mobile data SIM.
Add your travel eSIM on Pixel
Use the Pixel SIM screen, not a generic Android guide.
- Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs.
- Tap Add SIM, then Set up an eSIM.
- Follow the supplied QR or setup prompts. Continue only when a new line assigned to this order appears. If it does not, stop without rescanning or deleting anything. Contact support with the exact error wording, but do not send the QR, activation code or link, full setup email, EID, IMEI or ICCID.
- Return to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs. Turn Mobile data on. Under Your primary SIMs, tap Mobile data and choose the named travel eSIM. Turn Automatic data switching off on the SIMs screen. Keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off, and turn Roaming on for the travel eSIM only if the setup email requires it.
Check: Mobile data is on, the named travel eSIM is the selected data SIM and Automatic data switching is off.
Add your travel eSIM on Motorola
Motorola eSIM support varies by exact model and sales region. Confirm that exact variant in Motorola’s current support page before scanning.
- After landing, once Wi-Fi lets you sign in and open a normal webpage, open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs & mobile network.
- Tap Download new SIM, or the option that says download or set up an eSIM, then use only the QR code or manual details in your setup email.
- Continue only when a new travel line assigned to this order appears. If Download new SIM is missing, the new line does not appear or an error is shown, stop. Do not rescan, erase an eSIM or try another phone.
- Return to SIMs & mobile network, tap SIM for mobile data and choose the named travel line, then turn Switch SIM automatically off. Keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off and use travel-line roaming only if the setup email requires it. If any label differs, use Motorola’s current manual for the exact model or contact support with the model, sales region and error wording before changing it. Do not send the QR, activation code or link, full setup email, EID, IMEI or ICCID.
Check: The exact Motorola variant is confirmed, the named travel line is selected under SIM for mobile data and Switch SIM automatically is off.
Add your travel eSIM on Xiaomi
Xiaomi eSIM support and labels vary by exact model and sales region. Confirm that exact variant in Xiaomi’s current support page first.
- After landing, once Wi-Fi lets you sign in and open a normal webpage, open Settings > Mobile networks. Turn Use eSIM on, then tap Manage eSIM > Add eSIM. Some exact models instead show Turn on eSIM > Add eSIM, so use the current Xiaomi guide for the model in your hand if those labels differ.
- Use only the QR code or manual details in your setup email. Continue only when a new plan assigned to this order appears. If it does not or an error appears, stop without rescanning or deleting anything.
- Use eSIM can disable SIM 2. If your Australian SIM is in SIM 2 and you still need it for calls or messages, stop and check the exact-model guide before continuing.
- Return to Mobile networks. Tap the data-SIM selector, shown as Data SIM 1 or Data SIM 2 on Xiaomi 14T, choose the slot the phone identifies as the new travel eSIM, then turn Mobile data on. Keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off and use travel-line roaming only if the setup email requires it. If the correct slot is not clear, do not guess. Contact support with the exact model, sales region and error wording, but do not send the QR, activation code or link, full setup email, EID, IMEI or ICCID.
Check: The exact Xiaomi variant is confirmed, the new travel eSIM is selected for data and any SIM 2 effect is understood.
Use the exact-model manual
Do not borrow a menu path from a different OPPO or OnePlus. eSIM availability changes by model, sales region and software.
- Before buying or scanning, find the full model number and sales region, then open the manufacturer’s current manual or support page for that exact variant.
- After landing, once Wi-Fi lets you sign in and open a normal webpage, continue only if that exact manual confirms eSIM and shows the Add eSIM path. Follow that path with only the QR code or manual details in your setup email.
- If the exact manual does not confirm eSIM, the eSIM control is missing or its labels do not match, stop. Contact the manufacturer to confirm the variant, then contact The SIM Shop with the order number and exact model before scanning.
- If an error appears, leave every installed eSIM in place. Send the exact error wording as text, but never send the QR, activation code or link, full setup email, EID, IMEI or ICCID.
Check: The exact OPPO or OnePlus manual confirms eSIM, and the new order-assigned travel line is clearly selected for mobile data.
Use the exact-model instructions
Android 10 or a recent phone does not automatically mean eSIM is available.
- Before buying or scanning, identify the exact model number and sales region, then confirm that exact variant on the phone maker’s current eSIM compatibility page. A generic SIMs or Mobile network menu is not proof.
- After landing, once Wi-Fi lets you sign in and open a normal webpage, follow the phone maker’s current Add eSIM path for that exact model and use only the QR code or manual details in your setup email.
- Continue only when a new line assigned to this order appears. If it does not or an error appears, do not rescan, delete the line or try another phone. Take a cropped error screenshot, hide the QR, activation code or link, full setup email, EID, IMEI and ICCID, and keep it ready. Contact support with the exact model and error wording. Only send the screenshot if support asks for it.
- Turn on only the identified travel eSIM, select it for Mobile data and turn automatic data switching off. Keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off, and use travel-line roaming only if the setup email requires it.
Check: The exact model is manufacturer-confirmed and the assigned travel eSIM is selected for mobile data.
What settings do I change after the eSIM is installed?
Select the travel eSIM for Mobile Data. Turn on Data Roaming only for that travel line when your setup email tells you to. Keep Data Roaming off for your Australian SIM unless you deliberately choose its roaming service. On iPhone, also turn Allow Mobile Data Switching off if it appears.
What if the QR code will not scan?
Stay connected to Wi-Fi that can open a normal webpage. Check whether the travel eSIM is already listed in phone settings, then try the manual option only when the setup email includes exact manual details. Do not scan the same QR code on another phone or keep retrying after an already used or invalid message.
How do I know the eSIM is working before I leave Wi-Fi?
Confirm the assigned travel line is visible, turned on and chosen for Mobile Data. Keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off and turn automatic or mobile-data switching off. Apply travel-line roaming only if the setup email requires it. Only then turn Wi-Fi off briefly and open one simple web page. If it does not load, turn Wi-Fi back on and use the troubleshooting guide rather than deleting the eSIM.
How do I switch back when I get home?
Set Mobile Data back to your usual SIM, turn Data Roaming off on the travel eSIM and leave the travel line inactive unless your order says it can be used again.
Fix the selected line before changing anything else.
Use this only after the travel eSIM appears in phone settings. Stay connected to Wi-Fi that can open a normal webpage while you check the controls that usually solve a landing-day no-data problem.
Check data on iPhone
Use the mobile menu called Mobile Service, Mobile Data or Cellular.
- Open Settings and confirm the Travel eSIM line is turned on.
- Open Mobile Data and select Travel eSIM.
- Open the Travel eSIM line and turn Data Roaming on only when the setup email says to.
- Open the Australian line, keep its Data Roaming off, and turn Allow Mobile Data Switching off if it appears.
Check: After these protections are set, use Aeroplane Mode for 30 seconds, then turn Wi-Fi off briefly and open one web page. If it does not load, turn Wi-Fi back on, keep the eSIM installed and open I landed and have no data or Contact support.
Check data on Samsung
Use SIM manager first. Do not assume an Android setting applies to the travel line.
- Open Settings > Connections > SIM manager, or SIM card manager on earlier software, and confirm the assigned travel eSIM is enabled.
- Tap Mobile data and select the travel eSIM.
- Check Data Roaming only where the setting clearly applies to the travel eSIM and the setup email tells you to use it.
- Keep your Australian SIM selected away from Mobile data and turn Auto data switching off unless you deliberately want it.
Check: After these protections are set, use Aeroplane Mode for 30 seconds, wait two minutes, then turn Wi-Fi off briefly and open one web page. If it does not load, turn Wi-Fi back on, keep the eSIM installed and open I landed and have no data or Contact support.
Check data on Pixel
Pixel keeps the current data controls under Network & internet > SIMs.
- Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs and turn Mobile data on.
- Under Your primary SIMs, tap Mobile data and choose the named travel eSIM.
- On the SIMs screen, turn Automatic data switching off so the Pixel cannot fall back to Australian mobile data.
- Keep Australian-SIM Data Roaming off. Turn Roaming on for the named travel network only if the setup email requires it.
Check: After these protections are set, use Aeroplane Mode for 30 seconds, then turn Wi-Fi off briefly and open one web page. If it does not load, turn Wi-Fi back on, keep the eSIM installed and open I landed and have no data or Contact support.
Keep the fix narrow
Use the manufacturer path for the exact model. Do not translate a Pixel or Samsung path onto a different phone.
- Motorola: open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs & mobile network > SIM for mobile data, choose the named travel line, then turn Switch SIM automatically off.
- Xiaomi: open Settings > Mobile networks, tap the data-SIM selector, shown as Data SIM 1 or Data SIM 2 on Xiaomi 14T, choose the slot identified as the travel eSIM and turn Mobile data on. Do not guess between SIM 1 and SIM 2. Use eSIM can disable SIM 2.
- For OPPO or OnePlus, open the manufacturer’s current manual for the exact model and sales region and follow its mobile-data path. If that manual does not show the control, stop and contact the manufacturer and The SIM Shop rather than guessing.
- If the line or per-line control is unclear, stop before toggling anything or editing APN or network-selection settings. Take a cropped SIM-list screenshot, hide the QR, activation code or link, full setup email, EID, IMEI and ICCID, and keep it ready. Contact support with the exact phone model. Only send the screenshot if support asks for it.
Check: Only after the identified travel line and home-line protections are set, turn Wi-Fi off briefly and open one web page. If it does not load, turn Wi-Fi back on, keep the eSIM installed and open I landed and have no data or Contact support. If the line is unclear, do not run the test.
Ask before changing random settings.
If the QR code will not scan, the eSIM says already used, or data does not work after landing, start with the troubleshooting page before deleting anything.
