Gabon eSIM or local SIM: choose the data window before counting the bonus

Use the actual validity row: some Airtel daily-group packages last one hour, and the weekend package ends Sunday at 23:59. Monetary call credit, extra data and account-to-account transfers have separate rules. For a new visitor, include starter and registration requirements before comparing the local package with travel data.

Choose the Gabon data window you need

An Airtel Gabon bundle can sit under a daily heading and still expire after one hour. Another is called a weekend offer but ends on Sunday night, even if you only start using it that evening. Those details matter rather more than the size of the bonus printed above them.

Start with the hours or days you need covered, then separate a data purchase for an existing Airtel line from arranging a new visitor service. For the latter, include the local starter and identity process alongside the package price, so the bonus data doesn’t distract from what it takes to get connected.

Local provider details below were checked on 21 October 2026; our store prices are from 25 October 2026. The useful comparison is the allowance you can actually use, for the time you need it, through a purchase route that fits your phone and calling requirements.

Four routes, with four different jobs

RouteWhat it can doThe deciding condition
The SIM Shop Gabon travel eSIMSupply a fixed-data general-data allowance on a compatible, unlocked phoneChoose enough data and validity; ordinary calls and SMS are not included
Airtel local SIM plus WAMI dataSupply local prepaid service with a separately selected data packageA new line must first be issued through the applicable identity and purchase process
Airtel hourly or weekend packageSupply data for a deliberately short windowUse the actual expiry, rather than assuming a daily heading or forty-eight-hour weekend
Airtel CPT Internet transferMove a limited quantity of data to another eligible local lineBoth the receiving service and the transfer limits matter; it does not create another SIM

If you already have eligible Airtel service, compare the WAMI packages directly. If you need a new local line, ask for the accepted visitor documents and a complete starter-plus-data quote. A travel data plan is another route for a compatible phone when you do not need an ordinary local number.

Read the validity column, including the hourly rows

Airtel’s WAMI 4G page lists individual packages in French: Mo means megabytes and Go means gigabytes. We’ve kept those labels below so you can find the matching offer. Read each row’s actual validity, since the daily section also contains one-hour purchases.

WAMI allowanceActual listed validityDisplayed price amount
100 MoOne hour150
500 MoOne hour500
1 GoOne day1,500
1 GoThree days2,000
2.5 GoThree days2,500
4.5 GoSeven days5,000
3 GoThirty days6,000
7 GoThirty days10,000
20 GoThirty days20,000
150 GoSixty days90,000

The table itself does not put a currency in its price heading. Airtel uses FCFA explicitly elsewhere on its welcome and transfer pages; these are displayed local-package amounts in that context, rather than complete starter-plus-data quotations. We keep them separate from our AUD prices and make no exchange-rate price ranking.

The first two rows appear under Journalier, but their own validity says one hour. A 500 Mo purchase chosen for an arrival evening and the following morning therefore fails the intended duration. For a day of use, select an actual one-day row on an eligible line; the heading will not politely extend the hourly bundle because you have breakfast plans.

The page lists 1 Go as 1,024 Mo. Keep its units attached to its offer instead of silently treating every operator’s volume convention as identical.

A Sunday-night weekend purchase does not buy Monday

Under the same page’s Forfait Week-end selection, Airtel lists 650 Mo for 1,000 F, usable on Saturday and Sunday, with expiry at 23:59 on Sunday.

If the relevant Sunday use begins at 20:00, that published ending is three hours and fifty-nine minutes away. It is not two days from that point, and it does not cover Monday morning. Choose a package whose stated duration reaches Monday when that is the actual need. Check the activation confirmation as well as the published deadline before relying on the package.

Triple credit and extra data are separate benefits

Airtel’s New SIM page describes triple recharge credit through its CAG and Flash channels, alongside 200% extra internet volume on package purchases during the first three months of the welcome offer.

The three months describe the period in which those benefits can be earned. They do not turn each purchased data package into ninety days of internet. The FAQ gives the triple-credit bonus thirty days, while the internet package keeps its existing validity.

For an eligible 7 Go/thirty-day purchase, 200% extra volume means 14 Go extra, or 21 Go altogether. Its stated package validity remains thirty days. Confirm that your line qualifies for the welcome benefit and that the extra volume has been credited before spending against it.

The tariff table applies the monetary recharge bonus to local calls, while marking local SMS, general internet, international calls and international SMS as excluded. A traveller planning to spend triple monetary credit on maps or ordinary calls to Australia has therefore picked the wrong benefit. Extra data volume is the separate internet entitlement; call credit is not a general spending wallet.

A free-SIM headline is not a settled starter quote

Airtel’s homepage advertises a free SIM, while the New SIM detail page twice states 500 FCFA instead of 1,000 FCFA. Ask the agency to confirm which starter offer applies and what the complete purchase will cost.

The detail page directs customers to agencies or partners with an identity document. Its linked prepaid subscription document describes physical presence and photographs of the customer and identity document. However, that undated template refers to a separate accepted-identification protocol and contains unfilled fields. It is not a verified passport-only checklist for a new Australian visitor.

The same PDF has a separately titled Airtel Money section. Wallet identification rules cannot establish which documents are accepted for the mobile subscription. Likewise, the homepage top-up form asks for an existing +241 number; it is not a demonstrated online purchase of a new visitor eSIM.

For an eSIM-only phone, the local pages checked on 21 October do not establish a visitor eSIM purchase. Choose the travel data route when that is the service you need, rather than relying on a physical-SIM offer to supply an eSIM. An ordinary local number remains a separate requirement.

Data transfer does not create an unrestricted family pool

Airtel’s CPT Internet terms allow 50–500 Mo per transaction, with a maximum of one transfer per number per day and ten per month. The transfer fee is 0 FCFA. Received data goes into a dedicated balance with seven-day validity; accumulated volume takes the validity of the latest transfer.

Sending a partner 1,024 Mo in one transaction fails the 500 Mo cap. Splitting it into successive transfers from the same number that day also fails the one-transfer daily limit. More fundamentally, your partner still needs an eligible receiving local service; a transfer instruction is not a second SIM.

This is account-to-account data transfer, rather than Wi-Fi hotspot sharing. If two people need their phones independently, give each a suitable service instead of building the trip around an unrestricted transfer pool that the published terms do not provide. A zero transfer fee also does not make the underlying data free.

Free Facebook is not a general-data allowance

The Facebook gratuit section describes a simplified free mode. Its explicit exclusion says opening images or videos sends the user to paid access, charged against credit or a package.

That benefit cannot cover general map lookups, and it is not a reason to budget zero data for photo-heavy use. We have not tested its compatibility with current app versions, so it does not replace a general-data allowance in any recommendation here.

The SIM Shop option for a twelve-day Gabon trip

For a twelve-day Gabon-only visit with a total 3 GB app-data budget, our Gabon eSIM range includes 3 GB/thirty days at A$25.95. It matches that quantity and covers the duration on an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone, without ordinary calls or SMS. Choose 5 GB/thirty days at A$39.95 if you want 2 GB above that budget; the 1 GB/seven-day option at A$10.95 misses both the quantity and the trip length.

The remaining current options are 10 GB/thirty days at A$72.95 and 20 GB/thirty days at A$124.95. All five are set total allowances, beginning at the first network connection, without a daily high-speed reset. These plans list Airtel, 4G, with hotspot availability dependent on the network and the device. Sharing a host name does not prove the same speed, priority or reception as a local retail product.

Our Gabon phone-data setup guide covers the phone steps after arrival. Follow the order email for the travel line’s settings, and keep Australian-line data roaming off unless deliberately using your home carrier’s roaming.

Save accommodation addresses, tickets and onward arrangements offline as well. This is a Gabon data purchase, not a promise of reception along a railway, inside a lodge or throughout a forest excursion. An allowance can fit the whole visit without making every part of the route connected.
