How Much Mobile Data Do You Need for China, Japan and South Korea?

For a useful starting estimate, use the planner on this page: choose your destination if needed, enter the first and last days you need data, then select how you will use your phone and whether you will share the connection. Compare the estimated amount with a plan lasting for the whole trip. The worked example below shows how we check…

For China, Japan and South Korea, budget one total across the three legs. There isnโ€™t a fresh allowance waiting each time you land in the next included country.

The planner above gives you a starting estimate from dates, phone-use choices and any sharing. If no destination is selected, choose it first. Check both the amount of data and the number of usable days in its returned options; an allowance has to cover the trip as well as the estimated use.

The same data amount can have a different start window

Allow 3GB for Japan, 2GB for South Korea and 2GB for China. The 7GB total becomes 8.75GB with 25% added.

Those are planning inputs, not a measured average. Use your own expected transfers or the planner estimate for a personal budget. If you use the planner result instead, its buffer is already included; donโ€™t add the same 25% again.

The shared 10GB/30-day option fits the assumed 8.75GB. Asia 12 Areas also covers these three, and its 10GB/30-day price is A$64.95 too. Its start window is 180 days, while this three-country 10GB option has 60 days. For an early purchase, that difference can matter even with the same headline amount and price.

Put the amount beside the period

The worked 15-day example below comes to 8.75GB including a 25% buffer. The current 10GB/30-day China, Japan and South Korea option covers that assumed amount and period. Your own dates and use can produce a different result.

Match the places and the plan structure

The selected fixed-data option lists: Japan, South Korea, China.

This is one allowance to use across the listed places. It does not refill each day or at a border. That lets you use more on a busy day and less on a quiet one. A daily plan works differently: you get a fresh fast-data allowance on its own daily schedule.

If you need a laptop connection, confirm sharing for the exact plan, phone and any separate data limit before buying. These offers make sharing dependent on the network and device, so enough gigabytes alone do not promise it will work. If we cannot confirm the work connection you need, arrange another suitable service for that task.

Keep the big downloads on Wi-Fi

Download entertainment and offline maps on Wi-Fi before travel. Pause cloud-photo backup and automatic app updates on mobile data. If those uploads were already in your starting usage total, donโ€™t add them to the budget a second time.
