How much data for Singapore? Stopover and longer-stay budgets

A Singapore stopover and a longer stay can need different amounts of data. Put your actual dates, phone use and any sharing into the planner on this page for a starting estimate. The examples below show what changes between a short stopover and an eight-day visit.

Start with the stopover, then add any longer stay

A short Singapore stopover can need little data once tickets, maps and the first address are saved. An eight-day stay with uploads and calls through apps is a different budget. Don’t buy a week’s supposed average without counting the actual days.

Use the existing data planner above: enter your arrival and departure dates, choose the closest travel style and tell it whether you need hotspot. It estimates a data range and shows an available matching option when it can. A no-fit result is a reason to compare the offers below or email hello@thesimshop.com.au with the dates and essential requirements. The tool does not prove coverage at a particular address or create an ordinary phone number.

Match the countries before the allowance

These selected offers cover Singapore, not Malaysia by proximity. If you’re crossing the Causeway or adding another country, use the Singapore/Malaysia shared-versus-separate budget. A single-country remainder cannot be moved to the next country’s separate eSIM.

A stopover and a longer stay

For a three-day stopover, an assumed 0.6GB a day plus 0.2GB spare comes to 2GB. Stretch the visit to eight days at 0.7GB a day plus 1GB spare and you’ll need 6.6GB. These are examples to adapt, rather than a claim that everyone uses the same amount in Singapore.

Assumed tripCalculationBudget
Three-day stopover3 × 0.6GB + 0.2GB reserve2GB
Eight-day visit8 × 0.7GB + 1GB reserve6.6GB

The daily amounts are assumptions to replace with your own habits or a known period of phone usage. A video upload or long call can change the result; a reserve is part of the calculation, not an allowance that refreshes daily.

For the 2GB stopover budget, our 3GB/30-day plan at A$11.95 leaves 1GB and covers all three dates. For the 6.6GB visit, 5GB is 1.6GB short; our 10GB/30-day plan at A$23.95 leaves 3.4GB. The thirty-day validity on both amounts does not increase the data in the smaller offer.

The selected 1GB and 3GB offers have 180 days to start. The selected 5GB, 10GB and 20GB offers have 60 days. If departure is ninety days away, wait before buying one of those sixty-day offers. Keep the phone’s per-app counter on a known period if using it to choose the daily input.

These selected offers provide one total allowance, not a daily refill. The plan’s days begin when the eSIM first connects to a mobile network covered by the plan. The start window is how long you can wait after buying before that first use. Buy within that window; installing before departure is not a way to extend it.

Keep data from disappearing in the background

  • Download offline maps and the first accommodation details while still on Wi-Fi.
  • Set photo and cloud-backup apps to Wi-Fi only for the trip.
  • Turn off automatic app updates and high-quality video autoplay on mobile data.
  • If you need to share data with a laptop or another phone, treat hotspot as a separate requirement and check the selected plan’s current note rather than assuming it is included.

When the estimate is not enough

Do not assume every eSIM can be topped up or extended. Check the current order details and eSIM status first. If you need help choosing before purchase, email hello@thesimshop.com.au with your destinations, dates and whether you will use hotspot or video. It is much easier to choose a sensible allowance while you still have a coffee and stable Wi-Fi.

Set the phone up only after landing

Buy the plan before travel, but do not scan the QR code, tap a quick-install prompt, install or activate the travel eSIM before you leave. After landing, use airport Wi-Fi only after you can sign in and open a normal webpage. If that does not work, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection, then open the SIM Shop setup email and start. This keeps setup simple when you are tired and travelling.

When you install, choose the travel eSIM for mobile data and keep Australian-line data roaming off unless you intentionally use home-carrier roaming. On current iPhone software, the data-line path starts at Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; other iPhones may say Cellular or Mobile Data. The full iPhone, Samsung, Pixel and other-Android routes are in the eSIM install guide.
