A USA-and-Canada road trip needs the allowance to last through both countries. The border doesn’t give you a fresh bucket, and a generous bucket doesn’t create reception on every road.
The planner above gives you a starting estimate from dates, phone-use choices and any sharing. If no destination is selected, choose it first. Check both the amount of data and the number of usable days in its returned options; an allowance has to cover the trip as well as the estimated use.
Choose for the whole North American leg
For an illustrative 21-day road trip through the USA and Canada, choose 0.4GB a day for phone use plus 0.8GB of extra uploads. That gives 9.2GB before spare room, or 11.5GB after adding 25%.
Those are planning inputs, not a measured average. Use your own expected transfers or the planner estimate for a personal budget. If you use the planner result instead, its buffer is already included; don’t add the same 25% again.
In this example, 10GB is too small and the 20GB/30-day option fits. If the phone-use budget were 0.3GB a day instead, with the same uploads, the calculation would be 7.1 × 1.25 = about 8.9GB and 10GB would fit. Those are different intended-use budgets, not measured country averages.
Put the amount beside the period
| Current option | Period | Price | Fit for this example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3GB | 30 days | A$21.95 | Not enough data for this example |
| 5GB | 30 days | A$34.95 | Not enough data for this example |
| 10GB | 30 days | A$64.95 | Not enough data for this example |
| 20GB | 30 days | A$119.95 | Enough data and days for this example |
Match the places and the plan structure
The selected fixed-data option lists: United States, Canada.
This is one allowance to use across the listed places. It does not refill each day or at a border. That lets you use more on a busy day and less on a quiet one. A daily plan works differently: you get a fresh fast-data allowance on its own daily schedule.
If you need a laptop connection, confirm sharing for the exact plan, phone and any separate data limit before buying. These offers make sharing dependent on the network and device, so enough gigabytes alone do not promise it will work. If we cannot confirm the work connection you need, arrange another suitable service for that task.
Keep the big downloads on Wi-Fi
Download entertainment and offline maps on Wi-Fi before travel. Pause cloud-photo backup and automatic app updates on mobile data. If those uploads were already in your starting usage total, don’t add them to the budget a second time.
For the actual offer, open USA and Canada plans. Buy before flying and save the setup email; install after landing on working airport Wi-Fi, hotel Wi-Fi or another steady, trusted connection.
