Choose what you want to watch in Kentucky
You can know your way around a horse and still need a second look at the Kentucky Three-Day Event’s ticket menu. Grounds admission, eventing seats and CSI seats each buy a different part of the weekend. The most useful first decision is what you actually want to watch.
Cross-country, the eventing finale and the separate international Grand Prix tell different sporting stories. Buying several days of grounds access does not automatically put you in the grandstand for all of them. Choose the part you want to follow, then match the admission.
The event runs from 22–25 April 2027 at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The ticket details below were checked on 21 October 2026. Here is how to turn an interest in the sport into a visit that delivers it, including the friend or partner who has agreed to come but would appreciate knowing what the acronyms mean.
Three phases make one eventing competition
Eventing combines dressage, cross-country and a final jumping phase. The horse-and-rider pair accumulates penalties across the contest, with the lowest final total winning. The organiser’s competition explanation is a useful introduction to how those different tests fit together.
Dressage is the place to look at precision and partnership through a set sequence of movements on the flat. It rewards a different sort of attention from waiting for a dramatic obstacle: how smoothly does the pair move through the pattern, and how controlled does the work look?
Cross-country moves the action over terrain and solid obstacles. Think of it as a course through the grounds, rather than a race you can follow from beginning to end in one stadium seat. If the outdoor experience is what draws you to Kentucky, this is the phase to build the day around.
The final jumping phase brings the eventing competition towards its result. Its importance comes partly from what the pair has already done: you are watching the concluding test of a multi-phase contest, with the accumulated score still in play.
That last point is particularly helpful for a first-time companion. Sunday jumping is not merely another set of fences after Saturday. It is where the story you have been following reaches its outcome.
The Saturday Grand Prix has a different story
The Kentucky International is the separate five-star international show-jumping competition held during the weekend. Its Saturday Grand Prix is not the final phase of the eventing contest. CCI refers to eventing and CSI to show jumping, so those letters tell you more than which ticket sounds suitably impressive.
Choose the Grand Prix for that show-jumping session, or Sunday eventing jumping if you want to follow the eventing result. You can, of course, want both; just book them as two different sessions rather than one vaguely optimistic “jumping ticket”.
Match the day to the admission
The organiser’s 2027 day-by-day ticket guide separates grounds entry from stadium access. For an ordinary ticket purchase, use this as the starting point; a package only replaces a component when it explicitly includes it.
| What you want to watch | 2027 date | Ordinary admission needed |
|---|---|---|
| Dressage | Thursday 22 or Friday 23 April | Grounds admission plus that day’s eventing stadium seat |
| Kentucky International class | Thursday 22 or Friday 23 April | Grounds admission plus the separate CSI seat |
| Cross-country | Saturday 24 April | Grounds admission |
| International Grand Prix | Saturday 24 April | CSI seat; add grounds admission if entering for the daytime programme before 3 pm |
| Final horse inspection | Sunday 25 April | Grounds admission |
| Eventing jumping finale | Sunday 25 April | Grounds admission plus its eventing stadium seat |
General parking is included with grounds admission. The distinction between a seat and entry to the grounds matters even when both products refer to the same date and stadium.
For two adults watching Saturday cross-country only, that means two Saturday grounds admissions. You do not need to add ordinary stadium seats for that phase.
For two adults watching cross-country, Saturday’s Grand Prix and Sunday’s finale, build the purchase from two Saturday and two Sunday grounds admissions, two Saturday CSI seats and two Sunday eventing seats. Use the separate Saturday and Sunday grounds products for this purchase. The linked two-day ‘Spirit of ’78’ campaign returned ‘not available currently’ at the 21 October check, so its advertised saving is not included in this plan.
What the actual seller displays
The linked Etix pages show prices including ticket fees and taxes, unlike the organiser’s headline base rates. On 21 October 2026, the ordinary earlybird offers were:
| Component | Displayed price per person, US dollars |
|---|---|
| Saturday grounds | US$48.90: US$44 ticket + US$4.90 fee |
| Sunday grounds | US$44.50: US$40 ticket + US$4.50 fee |
| Saturday Grand Prix seat | US$17.50–32.40, depending on the available seat |
| Sunday eventing seat | US$28–130.50, depending on the available seat |
At those prices, two adults watching cross-country only total US$97.80. For two adults attending both daytime programmes plus the two seated jumping sessions, the displayed component range is US$277.80–512.60. That combines US$186.80 in grounds admissions with the two different pairs of seats; it is not a guarantee that any particular adjoining pair remains available.
Use ‘Buy Now’ under the exact day on the grounds page, then the matching CSI or Sunday eventing product on the reserved-seating page. The seller provides ‘Seating Chart’, ‘Section’ and ‘Best Available’ choices. Select the actual seats before paying rather than treating the bottom of the range as every seat’s price.
For Grand Prix only, the Saturday CSI seller explicitly says grounds admission is unnecessary for entry after 3 pm. Buy the CSI seat and use that later arrival. If you also want Saturday cross-country, buy Saturday grounds admission as well. This specific late-entry rule is more precise than the organiser’s general statement that grounds entry is required each day.
Children aged 12 and under receive free grounds admission with a paying adult under the organiser’s rule; reserved stadium seating remains separate. A ten-year-old joining two adults for cross-country therefore does not add another grounds ticket to the US$97.80 example.
Choose the seat and plan for collection
For stadium sessions, the organiser describes upper seating as partially covered and lower seating as open to the elements. Those descriptions can guide your choice, but partial cover is not a promise that a particular seat stays dry. Choose the upper tier for partial cover or the lower tier for proximity with full weather exposure. Wheelchair seating is in Row N of the lower Park Grandstand, with an adjacent companion-chair arrangement; order it through the box office on +1 859 254 8123, rather than buying an ordinary seat and assuming it converts.
Australian buyers should also read the delivery instructions carefully. The official FAQ says orders with a delivery address outside the USA are changed to collection at the event, called Will Call. Although other tickets can be downloaded or scanned on a phone, that does not remove the international collection requirement. Treat collection as a stop before entering the event, and keep the Etix order email. The current FAQ has not supplied a 2027 pickup address: its location sentence still refers to 2026. The box office number above is the specific contact for the order’s collection instructions; do not navigate straight to a guessed Will Call address.
General parking is included. The organiser directs ordinary ticket holders to the Kentucky Horse Park Campground entrance for the general lot, rather than the main entrance used by preferred and premium parking. Follow the event’s general-parking signs on arrival.
Save the Etix record, confirmed collection details and parking entrance offline. If you expect to call the box office during the wider trip, include ordinary calling in the phone-plan decision: our USA eSIM buying guide explains how those services differ from app data. The ticket email should still be available without a connection.
Once those details are settled, you can give the weekend back to the sport. Choose precision in the dressage arena, the outdoor cross-country experience, the eventing conclusion or the separate Grand Prix for a reason you can explain to your travelling companion. The ticket menu then has a much smaller job: getting you into the sessions you already know you want.
