Koh Tao via Chumphon: buy the ticket that starts where you are

Choose the ticket that begins where your separate travel actually leaves you: Bangkok coach, Chumphon Train transfer, airport transfer or pier-only. Compare complete inclusions and the actual arrival date before the fare. A flight or train arriving after the pickup or reporting target does not connect, and the joint boat ticket does not protect independently booked onward transport.

Choose where your Koh Tao ticket starts

If you are starting in Bangkok and want one coordinated land-and-sea journey, choose Lomprayah’s Bangkok coach-and-boat product. If you have independently booked a train to Chumphon, choose the Chumphon Train origin so the transfer to the pier is included. The airport and pier-only products start in different places again.

Compare the fare once its starting point fits the rest of your journey. A pier ticket can be good value when you have arranged to reach the pier. It is less helpful when you and your suitcase are still at the railway station, admiring a saving that has not supplied a vehicle.

The examples below use one adult travelling on 3 November 2026, viewed in Lomprayah’s public booking system on 21 October 2026. They are dated displayed fares and journey details, not reserved seats or guaranteed future prices. All times are local and prices are in Thai baht, shown as THB.

Four starting points, one afternoon arrival

These selected services all showed a 15:00 arrival on Koh Tao, but the land commitment before a 13:15 catamaran departure was very different.

Sources: the selected Bangkok, station, airport and pier booking results. Each road-and-boat ticket includes its listed transfer.

For departure from Chumphon station, the THB 150 difference between THB 900 and THB 750 pays for the included road transfer, or THB 300 for two adults. Choose that station product if you need the road leg, because the pier-only price leaves out part of the journey rather than offering the same inclusions for less.

The Bangkok fare is THB 350 above the station fare in this example, but that is not the total cost difference between coach and rail. The station product does not include your independently purchased train to Chumphon, your chosen train accommodation or getting to the railway departure point. Add those actual purchases before judging the price.

Flying to Chumphon does not eliminate the waiting

The airport product has a six-hour schedule from pickup to Koh Tao. Look at where those hours go before choosing a flight as the faster approach.

The selected itinerary leaves Chumphon Airport at 09:00, reaches the pier at approximately 10:00–10:30, and joins the 13:15 catamaran for a 15:00 Koh Tao arrival. The published sequence therefore contains roughly two hours 45 minutes to three hours 15 minutes at the pier, rather than six hours of continuous travel.

The airport transfer costs THB 250 more than the pier-only ticket. It supplies that airport-to-pier leg; it does not supply the flight to Chumphon or guarantee that an arriving aircraft will meet the pickup.

A flight scheduled to land at 09:10 cannot connect to a 09:00 departure. That hypothetical example is worth keeping in mind when a flight search and a ferry search sit in separate tabs. Choose another arrival arrangement, or travel to Chumphon the previous day and book a suitable next-day departure. Do not buy the missed pickup and assume a later boat automatically includes a replacement airport transfer.

An earlier flight still needs time for getting off the aircraft, collecting bags and reaching the meeting point. There is no universal safe flight-to-transfer interval established by this ticket. Your flight is a separate booking from the airport-to-island ticket.

The overnight coach changes both the date and the boat

The same Bangkok Khaosan search also offered these normal-coach combinations:

Bangkok departureKoh Tao arrivalBoat category shownAdult fare
21:30 on 3 November08:15 on 4 NovemberFerryTHB 850
22:00 on 3 November08:45 on 4 NovemberCatamaranTHB 1,250

Both displayed a total journey time of 10 hours 45 minutes. The THB 400 premium for the later catamaran combination did not buy an earlier arrival in this particular comparison. It bought a different service combination, leaving half an hour later and arriving half an hour later.

If price and those arrival times are your deciding factors, the THB 850 option is the sensible shortlist from these two. Choose the catamaran because you prefer that actual product, not because the faster-sounding vessel name must mean an earlier breakfast on Koh Tao.

For accommodation, the overnight services reach the island on 4 November, whereas the 06:00 daytime coach reaches it on 3 November. Book the room from the correct arrival date. An early-morning boat arrival does not itself include early hotel check-in.

The operator’s linked timetable remains useful for route planning, but its morning catamaran arrival differs from the dated booking results inspected here. Use the date-specific selected itinerary for the examples above; do not combine a time from the PDF with a different booking’s fare.

Reach the office before the departure time

Lomprayah’s terms require arrival at its office at least 60 minutes before departure. For the 06:00 Khaosan coach, that means 05:00. For the 22:00 coach, it means 21:00.

The Khaosan branch address is 154 Rambutri Road, Talat Yot, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200. The separately listed Pinklao branch is 147–147/2 Boromratchonnanee Road, Arun Amarin, Bangkok Noi, Bangkok 10700. They are not interchangeable names for one meeting point. The table above uses Khaosan throughout.

For an independently booked train, work backwards from the transfer as well. Under the general 60-minute instruction, a 12:00 station departure gives an 11:00 reporting target. A train scheduled to arrive at 11:30 fails that target before allowing for any rail delay. We would reject that pairing and choose an earlier train or a night in Chumphon instead.

The station transfer’s approximate pier-arrival range is not a new passenger reporting time. Once aboard the booked transfer, you are following its coordinated itinerary; it does not give someone arriving independently permission to use the same last-minute timing.

Luggage can change what you pay

The published terms allow a large bag up to 20 kg, with THB 200 extra above 20 kg, and list small items without an additional charge. Water-sports equipment is separately charged: THB 400 on a bus-plus-boat route, compared with THB 300 on a boat-only route. Only folding bicycles are accepted: the stated charge is THB 700 for car-plus-boat travel and THB 500 for boat-only travel.

For one adult taking the displayed THB 1,250 Bangkok service with one qualifying water-sports item, the known ticket-and-equipment components total THB 1,650. That is an illustration using the published equipment charge, not an all-in holiday quote. The equipment doesn’t become ordinary free luggage because the destination happens to be popular with water-sports travellers.

The terms also say Lomprayah does not reimburse expenses from missed connecting flights or trains. A joint coach-and-boat ticket therefore should not be treated as protection for an independently booked flight home. Choose an arrival night on the mainland before a time-critical onward departure rather than pricing a narrow connection as though replacement travel were included.

Make the origin visible in your saved booking

Save the exact starting point, departure date, reporting time and vessel category together. “Lomprayah to Koh Tao” leaves out the information that determines where you actually need to be.

For directions to that exact branch and online messages about the pickup, the Thailand SIM and eSIM guide compares data-only service with roaming and local calling plans. Match the service to the wider stay, then download the meeting instructions before leaving the previous stop.

Starting at the right place is the most useful upgrade here. Buy the Bangkok combination when you need the long road leg, the station or airport combination when you need its transfer, and the pier ticket when you have genuinely arranged to reach the pier yourself.
