When to use manual activation
Manual details are an alternative way to add the eSIM when a QR code isn’t practical. They aren’t a different plan and they don’t unlock a phone. Use only the details in your own SIM Shop setup email, after landing on steady Wi-Fi.
Which field goes where?
On an iPhone, the manual screen can ask for an SM-DP+ address, an activation code and sometimes a confirmation code. Copy the matching value from your email. Leave an optional confirmation field alone if your email doesn’t supply one; don’t substitute an order number, ICCID or APN.
Android may ask for a combined activation code instead of separate fields. Use the format supplied for that route. If the phone and email don’t offer matching fields, stop there and send us the screen labels. Guessing where to split a code can turn a straightforward installation into a much longer airport activity.
Open the manual route on your phone
- iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service, Cellular or Mobile Data → Add eSIM. Choose Enter Details Manually when offered.
- Samsung Galaxy: Settings → Connections → SIM manager or SIM card manager → Add eSIM or Add mobile plan. Choose the activation-code option if shown.
- Google Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM → Set up an eSIM. Follow the manual-entry help shown by that Android version.
Labels vary by phone, software and carrier. If no manual route appears, use the emailed QR on another trusted screen or ask us about your exact phone. A manual code won’t add eSIM support to an incompatible handset.
After the profile appears
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data, turn automatic data switching off where available, and follow your email’s roaming and APN instructions for that line. Keep Australian-line data roaming off unless deliberately using the home carrier’s roaming. Calls and SMS have separate carrier charging rules.
Turn Wi-Fi off briefly and open a normal webpage to test mobile data. If it fails, turn Wi-Fi back on and keep the profile installed. Don’t retry the same details on a second phone or delete the first installation.
If a code is rejected
Email hello@thesimshop.com.au with your order number, phone model, software version, destination and the exact error. Hide QR codes and activation values in screenshots. Tell us whether a profile is already listed and whether Wi-Fi can load a webpage. That lets us check the order without making you start again.
