Mauritius eSIMs and tourist SIMs for phones and laptops

Decide whether each phone needs an independent connection. The policy linked from my.t's tourist page prohibits tethering, while SIM Shop sharing depends on the phone and network. For the ten-day example needing 4 GB plus 2 GB, separate 5 GB and 3 GB plans total A$77.90, less than one shared 10 GB plan.

Choose Mauritius data for the devices you will use

“Unlimited data” sounds like the end of the shopping decision, until you want to share it with another phone or open the laptop. In Mauritius, that is exactly the detail to settle first: a large on-phone allowance and permission to use a hotspot can be two different things.

Start with the devices that need to connect: one phone with local calling credit is a different purchase from two independent phones or a laptop sharing the phone’s data. That is what changes the comparison between the my.t tourist package and our fixed-data options.

We sell the SIM Shop option. The my.t offer and linked policies were checked on 21 October 2026; our plan prices and terms were checked on 25 October 2026. Australian dollars, euros and local calling credit are labelled separately.

Start by counting the devices that need their own connection

For a phone used for maps, messages and bookings, a data-only eSIM can do the job without a local phone number. An ordinary call to a hotel or another local telephone number needs an appropriate calling service, unless the business has agreed to communicate through an app you can use.

For two people, decide whether each phone needs to work independently. Sharing can be convenient when you stay together, but it requires permitted hotspot use, a compatible working setup and the host phone nearby. The person carrying that phone also carries the practical responsibility for keeping the shared connection available.

If a laptop is part of the trip, check hotspot permission before deciding how much data to buy. A large on-phone allowance won’t help if the plan doesn’t allow you to share it.

The my.t tourist package has a specific hotspot restriction

The my.t 5G Tourist SIM/eSIM advertises unlimited mobile data for 30 days at €30 including VAT, plus local SMS and MUR200 of calling credit in Mauritian rupees. The credit is an amount to use against calling tariffs, rather than an unlimited-calls inclusion.

The fair-use policy prohibits hotspot or tethering use with another device, including a laptop, tablet or phone. The document is dated September 2021 and was linked from the tourist page when checked. Don’t choose that package for sharing on the strength of its unlimited headline; the linked policy excludes the use you need.

That makes this package a different proposition for a solo phone user than for a couple expecting one person to provide all the data. It may offer a useful on-phone service while excluding the sharing you had in mind.

The July 2026 tourist terms require successful registration with a valid travel document and an address of stay in Mauritius. Unused credit, airtime, SMS and data expire after thirty days, so this is a single-purchase option for a stay of up to thirty days, without retained benefits afterwards.

Online booking can still involve an airport counter

my.t’s standard pre-booking instructions end with collection and activation at its airport counter or a Telecom Shop, including for the eSIM route. Buying a digital SIM online doesn’t necessarily mean the entire arrival process happens through email.

Its digital-kiosk instructions describe a separate airport channel: scan a passport, provide the stay address and email, then pay through the kiosk’s Visa/Mastercard terminal. After a successful purchase, QR codes are supplied by email and printout, with an internet connection needed for installation.

Choose the route that suits your arrival, keeping the documents and actual accommodation address accessible. Allow time for registration and installation when arranging an airport pickup; a short advertised purchase time isn’t a guaranteed collection time.

Our fixed-data range gives you another way to buy

The SIM Shop Mauritius eSIM has these fixed-data choices for one phone:

Total dataValidityAUD price
1GB7 daysA$12.95
3GB30 daysA$31.95
5GB30 daysA$45.95
10GB30 daysA$88.95
20GB30 daysA$139.95

The checked offers name Emtel and my.t, with 3G/4G capability listed in the plan details. They are data-only, without an ordinary local number, voice allowance or SMS service. Validity begins on first supported-network connection, with 180 days from purchase to start. Same-area data reload is supported within active validity, without extending its original end date.

Hotspot availability depends on the phone and network. Check the selected option if sharing is essential. These fixed-data travel offers have their own terms: a host-network name doesn’t make them the same purchase as the operator’s direct tourist bundle.

Compare a shared plan with two independent phones

For an illustrative ten-day trip, suppose one person expects 4GB of phone use and the other 2GB. A shared connection would need 6GB in total, so our 10GB/30-day plan at A$88.95 would cover that estimate with 4GB left, provided the hotspot arrangement works for the devices.

A 5GB plan for the first phone and a 3GB plan for the second would cost A$77.90, leaving each person 1GB. That is A$11.05 less than the shared 10GB plan, with each phone able to connect independently when you separate.

Two separate 5GB/30-day plans would cost A$91.90, leaving 1GB on the first phone and 3GB on the second. The extra A$14 over the smaller pair buys the second person another 2GB; it is useful margin only if that person is likely to use it. Compared with the shared plan, the two 5GB plans cost A$2.95 more and provide the same 4GB of total spare data, divided between the phones.

Assumed ten-day arrangementTotal AUD costWhat it means for the pair
One 10GB plan, with permitted working hotspotA$88.95One shared allowance; the second device needs the host nearby
One 5GB plan and one 3GB planA$77.90Independent phones with 1GB spare each
Two 5GB plansA$91.90Independent phones with 1GB and 3GB spare respectively

These are three ways to meet the same stated needs, rather than a comparison with a local unlimited offer that prohibits that sharing arrangement. The point is to price the setup you’ll actually use, not declare one plan the island’s cheapest connection.

For a laptop scenario, 8GB of work plus 2GB on the phone uses the entire 10GB allowance, leaving no spare room. The 20GB/30-day option at A$139.95 adds 10GB for A$51 more. That gives you more data margin, but doesn’t remove the need to confirm hotspot support for the chosen phone and plan. Treat the allowance calculation and the working connection as separate checks.

Choose the setup that lets everyone use their phone

For the couple above, two appropriately sized travel plans provide independent connections for less than the larger shared allowance. That is a useful reason to consider the fixed-data options, particularly if each person needs maps and bookings when apart.

For ordinary calling credit or substantial on-phone use within thirty days, my.t is the local option compared here. Use its standard airport/Telecom Shop collection route or the separate airport digital kiosk, and keep its hotspot prohibition separate from the conditional sharing terms on our fixed-data plans.

Before ordering, check each phone’s compatibility and unlock status. Save the first address and booking details offline on both phones, so each traveller has them while getting connected.
