Will the plan reach day eighteen?
For an eighteen-day Mongolia trip, Unitel’s 25GB/twenty-day offer reaches the end, while Mobicom’s 25GB/fifteen-day offer stops three days early. Both allowances may look generous, but only one covers those dates without another purchase.
Compare the service days beside the data, then check how you will buy and activate it. Our Mongolia eSIM is another option for a smaller allowance over a longer stay. The local offers provide much larger amounts, and neither a local tourist label nor a telephone number automatically means ordinary calling is included.
The named package prices were checked on 25 October 2026. Local prices are Mongolian tögrög, shown as MNT; SIM Shop prices are Australian dollars. Purchase-form details reviewed on 21 October are dated separately below.
Test the allowance against the last day
The Unitel Tour SIM and Mobicom Tourist Data offers list:
| Local package | Data | Service days | Package price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unitel Tour SIM | 15 GB | 10 | MNT25,000 |
| Unitel Tour SIM | 25 GB | 20 | MNT40,000 |
| Unitel Tour SIM | 50 GB | 30 | MNT70,000 |
| Mobicom Tourist Data | 15 GB | 7 | MNT20,000 |
| Mobicom Tourist Data | 25 GB | 15 | MNT30,000 |
| Mobicom Tourist Data | 50 GB | 30 | MNT60,000 |
These are the data-package prices, rather than confirmed totals for a new visitor. Unitel’s help table lists a separate MNT5,000 SIM-card fee without saying whether every digital purchase pays it; Mobicom’s physical option needs a blank SIM bought separately. Include the cost of getting the line before comparing the package prices.
For eighteen days needing an estimated 20 GB, Unitel’s 25 GB option has enough time and leaves 5 GB above the estimate. Mobicom’s 25 GB option stops three days too soon. Its 50 GB / 30-day package fits, leaving 30 GB spare; the step up buys the required days as well as the extra data.
For eight days and only 2 GB, Mobicom’s 15 GB / seven-day package still finishes too early. Unitel’s 15 GB / ten-day and Mobicom’s 25 GB / fifteen-day options reach the end. Having plenty of data left doesn’t keep an expired service running.
Don’t start Mobicom’s purchase window too early
Mobicom gives an online purchase 30 days to be activated. Miss that deadline and the package is automatically cancelled. After activation, the selected service period begins, with the number deactivated at expiry. Buying a 30-day package and waiting 35 days to activate it therefore fails a different clock before the holiday has even started.
Its published process uses email verification, card payment and emailed SIM details. The physical version needs the blank card’s identifier. We haven’t completed an Australian-card payment, so treat this as the documented route rather than a tested transaction. Mobicom also describes reminders at 80% and 100% usage and one day before expiry, with a link to repurchase. Receiving a reminder doesn’t renew the allowance for you.
The Unitel Tour SIM form reviewed on 21 October asked for name, email and Passport ID, plus phone and email verification. Keep access to the contact number if you intend to use that route. An email code won’t replace a required phone code.
Check how your driver or accommodation will contact you
Mobicom says its Tourist Data number cannot make or receive ordinary calls, apart from calling its own customer service on 2222. The number is not an incoming-call service for a driver. The reviewed Unitel offer doesn’t establish an included voice entitlement either.
Our Mongolia eSIM is data-only too. If everyone agrees to use the same internet messaging app, that can meet the contact requirement where there is a connection. If you need a conventional telephone call, arrange a separately confirmed voice service through an operator or use an existing service with known charges. A larger data package doesn’t change that distinction.
A smaller allowance with thirty days to use it
Our Mongolia eSIM gives you one fixed amount of data, with no daily reset:
| SIM Shop total data | Validity | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | A$8.95 |
| 3 GB | 30 days | A$20.00 |
| 5 GB | 30 days | A$38.95 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | A$64.95 |
| 20 GB | 30 days | A$112.95 |
For the eight-day, 2 GB example, the 3 GB plan costs A$20 and leaves 1 GB above the estimate. For twelve days needing 4 GB, the 5 GB choice at A$38.95 also leaves 1 GB. The extra A$18.95 over the 3 GB plan buys another 2 GB.
For eighteen days needing 20 GB, our 20 GB plan fits exactly, with no spare allowance. If your estimate needs room, this range has no larger single option to recommend. Mobicom’s identified 50 GB / 30-day local package is a larger alternative, with its own purchase process and currency.
Our plans list Mobicom as the network and start validity on first supported network connection. Same-area reloads are listed within active validity; don’t assume they extend the end date. These are defined phone-data purchases in Australian dollars, rather than a claim to provide a stronger signal than a local service on the same network.
Treat the airport promotion as a separate offer
Mobicom’s current guide advertises a free SIM with 1 GB for international visitors at its New Ulaanbaatar International Airport branch. It excludes other branches and the website. The published detail doesn’t establish a service duration or collection at a particular arrival time, so we haven’t used it as the whole-trip solution in the examples.
If it suits the service you are offered on arrival, it may be useful. For a plan organised in advance, choose one of the named purchases whose data, included days and purchase steps you can confirm.
Save camp addresses, transport details and agreed meeting arrangements offline. Increasing the allowance doesn’t extend a network’s geographic reach. The Naadam guide covers the separate cultural visit, rather than reception at a festival venue.
For our eSIM, check the exact phone and unlock status, buy before departure and keep the email available. Install after landing on working airport, hotel or other steady trusted Wi-Fi. The allowance should fit the itinerary; the itinerary shouldn’t depend on spending the last travel day trying to revive an expired plan.
