The cheaper choice changes with the allowance
For Japan, Nomad’s AUD offers checked on 1 November 2026 are A$9.96 for 3GB/30 days, A$14.22 for 5GB/30 days and A$22.76 on sale for 10GB/30 days. Ours are A$11.95, A$14.95 and A$19.95 respectively. Nomad wins the first two price comparisons; our 10GB option is A$2.81 less in this snapshot.

Buying for a trip three months away
Our Japan 3GB fixed option gives 180 days to start after purchase. Nomad’s Japan page states a 60-day activation window. For first use 90 days away, our selected 3GB start window fits and that Nomad window doesn’t. Buying Nomad closer to departure may solve the timing issue if its offer still suits you.
Our Japan 10GB fixed plan also has a 60-day start window. The longer deadline belongs to the selected 3GB offer, not our entire Japan range.
Rewards are for another order
Nomad awards loyalty points in US$5 spend increments at 25 points per increment, with 100 points redeemable for US$1. Its example US$12 purchase earns 50 points, and ordinary loyalty points expire after six months. Qualifying returning-user bonuses can add value, subject to the programme rules.
SIM Shop Credit earns 5% on eligible spend, with order caps, a pending period and a 12-month expiry. It’s Australian-dollar store credit with no cash value. Read our credit terms for eligibility and redemption; don’t deduct a possible future benefit from a first purchase’s payable total.
Refunds need the same scenario
Compare an unused change-of-plans request with the same situation at the other shop. A connection failure after installation is a separate question. Nomad’s published terms and help article describe eligibility and original-payment or points options; our refund policy explains our account route and discretionary unused-order window. Applicable consumer guarantees are separate.
Nomad’s own plan refund policy restricts discounted purchases after installation or activation. Include that condition when comparing cancellation flexibility. A connection fault needs its own support review; leave the profile installed while getting help.
The useful choice
Choose the lower suitable current basket if price settles it. Give a longer start window value only if you need it, and give credit value only if you’ll use it.
