Plan a Hofkellerei visit in Vaduz
The princely name makes Hofkellerei sound like somewhere you should arrive with an invitation and a much better understanding of wine. In practice, a couple can join its public tasting in Vaduz without organising a private group. That makes it a useful addition to a Liechtenstein visit, particularly if you want a conversation about the place as well as a glass of something made by the estate.
The public session costs CHF 19 per person and includes a guided tour. Plan for 3pm Monday–Friday or 2pm Saturday, allowing about 90 minutes. Those details were checked on 21 October 2026. A private booking gives a larger party its own arrangement and stated menu. The public visit already includes more than a tasting at the shop counter.
A Liechtenstein winery with an Austrian side to the story
One useful question to take to the tasting is where each wine comes from. The name of the winery and the place you drink the wine are not necessarily the place its grapes grew.
Hofkellerei’s estates span Liechtenstein and Austria, including the Alpine Rhine Valley, Weinviertel and Leithaberg. Its own introduction makes those different origins central to the range. An Austrian wine in a Vaduz tasting is therefore part of the estate’s story, rather than evidence that you have somehow gone to the wrong cellar.
The vineyard associated with the Vaduz visit is Herawingert. Liechtenstein Tourism describes its southwest-facing site and mild local climate in connection with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As you look at the vineyard, connect that setting with the wine’s label and the guide’s explanation. If the tasting moves to another origin, notice the change instead of mentally filing every bottle under “Liechtenstein”. The tourism authority’s Wine Moments description provides the vineyard context.
For a first tasting, start with the grape and the origin, then listen for what the host says about the wine. You do not have to produce a theatrical list of aromas to be interested. “Which vineyard is this from?” is a perfectly good question.
The public visit works for solo travellers and couples
The official tourism listing describes a sparkling-wine welcome, a vineyard and cellar tour, and six selected wines. It lists the same afternoon start times as the winery, with a duration of 60–90 minutes. Allow the full 90 minutes when arranging the rest of your afternoon.
Individuals and groups of up to five can attend without advance registration. Six or more should reserve by emailing office@hofkellerei.li. Meet at the entrance to the winery at Feldstrasse 4, Vaduz. For two adults, the advertised public price is CHF 38 altogether. A weekday 3pm session gives an approximate finish at 4.30pm; the Saturday 2pm session would finish around 3.30pm.
Use those published afternoon appointments for your plan. The winery’s introductory text mentions twice-daily tastings, but supplies only these specific departures. There is no second published time to build a morning visit around. The venue is closed on public holidays, and the public schedule does not offer a Sunday session.
The wines are described as a selection, rather than a fixed list of named vintages. A visitor’s account of a particular Pinot Noir, icewine or extra spirit is interesting reading, but it is not the menu for your ticket.
What a private booking changes
For a larger party, choose the private format by what you want to do together. The Cellar Door Tasting is the compact wine-focused choice. Hofkellerei Classic explicitly adds the vineyard and cellar tour, while the longer options change the wine selection and finish.
| Private experience | Published group size | Approximate duration | Price per person and minimum group charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cellar Door Tasting | From six | 45 minutes | CHF 19; minimum CHF 114 |
| Hofkellerei Classic | From eight | 60 minutes | CHF 26; minimum CHF 208 |
| Wine Moments | From ten | 75 minutes | CHF 32; minimum CHF 320 |
| Princely Wine Experiences | From ten | 90 minutes | CHF 42; minimum CHF 420 |
The winery’s private-experience menu lists four wines for Cellar Door. Classic includes a Liesecco welcome, the guided vineyard and cellar visit, and four wines. Wine Moments adds icewine to that combination. Princely changes the welcome to Premier Brut and includes five wines, with premium lines represented, followed by icewine or Marc.
The advertised private durations are not a ranking of how worthwhile the visit will be. Cellar Door is shorter than the public session because it is a different format; it does not list a guided visit to the vineyard and cellar. For six friends who want a dedicated tasting, its CHF 114 minimum matches the six-person rate. For eight who want the vineyard and cellar explanation, Classic is the clearer private choice at CHF 208.
If eight friends are happy with the scheduled public visit, their advertised admission would instead total CHF 152, with advance reservation required for that group size. The CHF 56 difference buys the private Classic arrangement and its stated menu, not simply the right to see a vineyard that is absent from the public visit. That is the comparison to make before spending more.
For ten people, Wine Moments totals CHF 320, while Princely totals CHF 420. Choose the latter if the named premium selection and different welcome appeal to the group. The princess’s association with the winery does not make either booking a promised meeting with her.
Arrange the group visit, then leave room to enjoy it
Use the winery’s event-request form or email office@hofkellerei.li with your party size, preferred date and chosen experience. The private options are arranged in advance, rather than sold as a guarantee that a guide will be waiting whenever your group arrives. For an ordinary couple’s visit, the scheduled public session is the simpler recommendation.
For Wine Moments, the tourism listing explains that the winery sends a written reservation confirmation, which the customer signs and returns before the booking becomes binding. It also requires participant changes at least 24 hours ahead and lists a CHF 100 cancellation charge for cancellation less than 24 hours before the booking. Those are useful details for the person organising a group: a cheerful “we should all go” in the chat is still several steps short of a reservation.
Save Feldstrasse 4 in Vaduz with your confirmation, rather than the winery’s addresses in Wilfersdorf or Vienna. If you need data for maps or group-booking emails, our Liechtenstein eSIM range is one option. For a trip continuing into Switzerland or Austria, check every country in the selected plan’s coverage list before buying.
The Vaduz shop’s published opening hours are 9am–6pm Monday–Friday and 10am–5pm Saturday, but the public tasting has its own afternoon start. Give the visit that time, and let the labels, vineyard and host’s explanation connect the wines to their actual places of origin.
