Woodford Folk Festival 2026/27: choose your days before choosing your pass

Let the welcome, conversation, concert or making workshop choose the Woodford day, then buy the pass and sleeping arrangements that actually fit.

Choose the Woodford days you want to spend there

A Woodford programme can turn a perfectly sensible person into someone who believes they can attend three workshops, hear two bands and have lunch simultaneously. The trick is to pick a few things you really want to experience, then buy the ticket that gives you time for them. You can leave some of the colour-coded timetable at home.

The 2026/27 Woodford Folk Festival runs from 27 December to 1 January. Programme and ticket details below were checked on 21 October 2026; keep the official day guide handy for later changes. A day ticket covers the date you select and that night’s programme; a season ticket covers all six days. Camping is a separate ticket category, so staying for a late performance and sleeping onsite are different purchases. Woodford ticket FAQ.

For a first visit, 28 December offers a particularly interesting combination: a morning conversation with NIDALA about custodianship, followed much later by Kate Miller-Heidke. If the opening ceremony matters most, choose 27 December. If you want The Renewal, choose 1 January, not New Year’s Eve. These are three different ways into the festival, with enough space between them to explain why a single day can be satisfying without pretending it contains everything.

Pick the experience you want to bring home

Woodford’s music, making and conversations reward different kinds of attention. Listening to a singer cross musical styles is not the same experience as sitting with stories about Country, and neither needs to be reduced to a box ticked between headline acts.

The current programme describes Welcome Ceremony: Yari Gari as a Jinibara-led living ceremony involving song, dance and fire. Approach it as a welcome with cultural meaning, rather than simply the first big entertainment slot. Custodianship with NIDALA takes a more conversational form, connecting storytelling, cultural connection and Country with themes in her music.

Kate Miller-Heidke offers another thread. Her classically trained voice and work across folk, pop, musical theatre and opera make her a useful choice if your musical tastes refuse to stay in one drawer. Her two scheduled appearances let you fit a concert around the other things you came for. Choose the date that works; do not assume the two sets will be identical.

Here are the dates and venues to put against those priorities. Times are local Queensland time, from the published 2026/27 day guides.

On 28 December, that leaves several hours between Custodianship and Kate’s concert. Keep them available for lunch, a wander and something unfamiliar, rather than treating the gap as a scheduling failure. On 1 January, arrive well before the evening ceremony: The Renewal is a reason to choose that date, not a reason to turn up at its starting time.

Make something, rather than just watching someone else

If you would like a practical activity, Cyanotype Prints with Alieta Belle is a different sort of festival souvenir. The workshop uses botanicals, lace and found objects to create blue sun prints on paper and fabric. You are choosing a process to experiment with, not merely a talk about someone else’s finished work.

The current listing offers 27 December at 8.30 am or 30 December at 3.30 pm, at the Atelier, for A$70, with a minimum age of 12. Reserve the session through the official workshop page and buy festival admission for the same date separately. For a less hurried arrival, choose the 30 December afternoon session; the 27 December option begins only half an hour after day-ticket wristband collection opens. Keep the period after the workshop free rather than booking a tight next activity, because its listing does not publish an end time.

For a 12-year-old participant, the festival requires an accompanying guardian aged 18 or over; for those aged 13–17, the guardian must be at least 25. The workshop age limit does not remove those festival guardian rules.

If making the print is your main interest, book around the workshop date and include both charges in the budget: A$70 for the session, plus festival admission. Buying a pass first and hoping the workshop fits later reverses the decision you actually need to make.

Three days or the whole season?

For adults aged 18 and over, these are the published presale base prices through 24 December, checked on 21 October 2026. Amounts are Australian dollars. Official ticket prices.

With campingA$190A$570A$760A$710

At three days, separate tickets cost A$125 less without camping, or A$140 less with camping. At four days, the season base price is A$20 less without camping, or A$50 less with camping. Choose individual days for three fixed priorities; choose the season when you want four or more days and the freedom to return.

These are base comparisons, not final holiday budgets. Purchases add A$3.50 per ticket and a 2% infrastructure fee on the transaction total. Parking, paid workshops, food and hired accommodation are additional; the listed Eastern Bloc day/long-term car pass is A$30. Multiple day tickets also mean multiple per-ticket fees. The ticket page lists later online and gate prices separately, so these presale figures are not arrival-day quotes.

Camping buys a different rhythm, not just a later bedtime

A day ticket lets you remain until that night’s programme finishes, approximately 2 am. You do not need to buy camping simply because you want to hear a late act. Buy the camping category when you intend to sleep onsite. Day-ticket access.

For a single overnight visit, the camping night belongs to the ticket date, not the night before. After the overnight programme ends, it does not admit you to the following day’s festival. Leave the overnight campground by 10 am. That makes a 28 December camping ticket a way to stay after Monday’s performances, not a two-day festival pass. Camping arrangements.

Season camping allows setup on 26 December and departure on 2 January. It also matters for early activities: the current entry terms reserve access before 8 am for Season with Camping ticketholders. A non-camping season ticket is not the right purchase for a plan built around those sessions. Some individual programme cards also identify activities for season campers, including the 8 am Your Brain Loves Music session on 28 December. Entry terms and programme.

If you are flying in and do not want to carry a tent, Tent City and Bell Tent Village are accommodation options, but their shelter bookings do not replace the festival’s camping admission. Buy the matching festival ticket with camping before arranging the hired accommodation. For your own tent, bring a complete sleeping setup and prepare for heat as well as rain; the organiser describes basic showers and toilets, uneven ground and limited shade. A tent with excellent festival credentials is still just a tent when you discover you packed no pillow. Official camping information.

Sort the phone jobs before the music starts

Name each ticket through the link in your confirmation email, then save its QR code offline. Bring matching photo ID for wristband collection. Save the day guide too, and agree on a meeting place with your group before splitting up. Those small jobs are easier before everyone has found a different stage. Visiting Australia from overseas? Our Australia mobile-data buying guide can help you choose between app data and a local calling service for the wider trip. Sort that out alongside the other travel bookings, then keep the festival tickets and meeting details offline regardless: a national plan listing does not promise reception in a crowded festival ground.

Already living in Australia with enough mobile data? You may need nothing extra. Put the effort into choosing your days: the welcome on 27 December, the conversation-and-concert combination on the 28th, an afternoon making prints on the 30th, or the closing ceremony on 1 January. That is a plan with room to enjoy the festival, rather than spend it apologising to your timetable.
