The old Australia Post TravelSIM isn’t a current offer
Australia Post’s current travel range doesn’t list the old prepaid TravelSIM. Don’t use an old review, price table or article as proof you can collect one at a post office today. If you’re choosing a connection for an upcoming trip, compare products currently available to buy.
We’re The SIM Shop and sell travel eSIMs. A physical SIM can still be the right choice, particularly for a phone without eSIM support or someone who wants help at a counter. That’s a service preference, not a contest over whether a familiar shop is trustworthy.
A physical SIM doesn’t always mean removing your Australian line
A single-SIM phone requires a swap. A phone with suitable dual-SIM support may keep two services available. An eSIM-capable phone may instead keep the Australian physical SIM in place and add travel data electronically. The exact handset decides the combination.
Keeping the home line available can help with bank SMS, but it doesn’t make ordinary calls, voicemail or every message free. Confirm the Australian carrier’s roaming eligibility and charges. Set the travel line for mobile data, keep automatic switching off where available, and keep home-line Data Roaming off unless deliberately using it.
One current Japan example
Our Japan 10GB/30-day fixed offer is A$19.95. It is data-only, starts on first network connection and has a 60-day window to start after purchase. A compatible, unlocked phone is required. Hotspot depends on the selected plan, network and device; the allowance isn’t a laptop-performance guarantee.
That is a current eSIM example, not a price comparison with a discontinued Australia Post product. If you need an ordinary local number or a physical card, choose a current offer that explicitly includes it.
Ask the questions that change the purchase
- Phone without eSIM: choose a compatible physical SIM or use deliberate carrier roaming. An unlock doesn’t add eSIM hardware.
- Carrier-locked phone: ask the original carrier to complete the unlock before relying on another provider’s physical SIM or eSIM.
- Local calls: ask for the number and included ordinary call/SMS terms. App calling is a different service.
- Buying early: identify both the purchase-to-start deadline and what starts usable validity.
What happens if a digital profile has a problem?
A digital eSIM isn’t automatically reusable or replaceable. Keep it installed and send the seller your order number, phone model and exact error. Whether it can supply replacement setup details, move the service or refund the order depends on that purchase and your applicable rights. A fresh QR code won’t solve every fault.
