For an assumed 10GB of sharing across seven days, Holafly's advertised 7GB sharing example and our 10Mbps offer's 6GB hotspot allowance both fall short. Our seven-day full-speed option has no separate hotspot allowance. If you only need phone data, a fixed plan may be enough instead.
We'll work through both cases below. We sell the SIM Shop plans in this comparison; the specifications were checked on 30 October 2026 and apply to the Japan offers described.
Phone data and laptop data need separate rows
Holafly's Japan page advertises unlimited data and 1GB of hotspot sharing per day, illustrated as 7GB across a seven-day plan. It also describes possible temporary fair-use speed restrictions. The checked page doesn't give a numeric GB trigger for that restriction.
Our checked Japan offers differ by duration:

On the local fourteen-day plan, heavy phone use is reviewed over rolling three-day periods and may lead to speeds around 1Mbps; there’s no published GB trigger. Sharing has its own 13GB allowance and may slow to around 128kbps after that. The plan counts calendar days in Japan and has a start-by date for the issued order, so its timing and sharing rules differ from the seven-day offers.
Work through a seven-day trip
Assume you expect 0.7GB of phone use per day and choose a 1GB reserve: 5.9GB in total. Our 10GB offer fits that assumed budget at A$19.95. If you'd prefer unlimited phone use, compare the two seven-day options and Holafly's current quote for those same dates.

Now add a separate assumed 10GB of laptop use. The SIM Shop 10Mbps offer's 6GB hotspot allowance doesn't meet it. Holafly's advertised seven-day 7GB sharing example also falls short. Our seven-day full-speed offer has no separate hotspot allowance, but you'll still need suitable coverage and devices. No offer here establishes a guaranteed work connection.
These examples explain a choice; they don't claim what a normal traveller uses. Replace the assumptions before choosing.
Compare the final price in the same currency

If a fixed allowance fits, include it in the comparison rather than paying for unlimited automatically. If you want freedom from a fixed phone-data bucket, compare the unlimited offers on hotspot, speed conditions and duration. Both are reasonable preferences.
Setup and expiry can change the fit
For our plans, buy and save the email before travel, then install after landing on working airport Wi-Fi. If that fails, use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection. Follow the selected offer's roaming instructions; our local KDDI service has different settings from the shorter roaming offers.
Don't infer today's rules from a previous Japan purchase. In particular, the 14-day local KDDI example doesn't inherit the seven-day full-speed offer's hotspot term. Use the Japan unlimited guide and the issued instructions.
