Our Canada data planner at the top of this guide can give you a starting estimate. Enter your dates and choose the closest travel style. It shows a rough data range and, when there's a suitable option, a current plan for the trip.
Below, we've worked through budgets of 4GB, 9.9GB and 18.8GB so you can see how the estimate relates to our 5GB, 10GB and 20GB offers. First, settle any US leg, remote driving or essential laptop use, because those requirements can change which service belongs in the comparison.
A US side trip needs its own coverage check
The checked Canada fixed-data offers list Canada. Don't assume they cover a drive into the USA or a flight connection where you need mobile data.
If your route includes both, compare separately supported country plans with an offer that explicitly includes every stop. Note whether its allowance is shared across the route and whether validity continues running between countries. Choose from the actual itinerary rather than a regional label.
A laptop and a remote drive are different problems
A laptop can add downloads, synchronisation and calls to the data budget. Confirm hotspot suitability before depending on the selected offer: the checked Canada notes say it may depend on the phone and local network.
For a drive away from towns, ask which network the selected offer uses, then look up that operator's coverage map for the roads and overnight stops you'll take. If those locations aren't covered, a bigger allowance won't help; save the route offline and arrange another way to handle essential communication. An included-country label and an unused allowance don't prove service everywhere. Save maps and essential booking information before you go; more gigabytes aren't a substitute for an offline backup.
For a US side trip or essential hotspot, send us the stops, dates and phone model before buying so we can resolve what the data estimate doesn’t answer.
Build a trip budget, not a “typical traveller” estimate
Choose a daily assumption based on your own usage and add a reserve. These examples are arithmetic for planning, not measurements of Canadian maps, apps or travellers:
| Example | Assumed daily use | Reserve | Budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ten days with large downloads kept on Wi-Fi | 0.3GB × 10 | 1GB | 4GB |
| Fourteen days with more mobile use | 0.6GB × 14 | 1.5GB | 9.9GB |
| Twenty-one days with regular uploads | 0.8GB × 21 | 2GB | 18.8GB |
Replace those daily amounts with your own. If you're collecting a hire car in Vancouver and driving on, save the first route and accommodation details before leaving a reliable connection. If you'll spend the trip in cities with frequent Wi-Fi, the budget can look different. Neither itinerary gives us a reliable GB figure without your usage assumptions.
What the current fixed-data options cost
Selected Canada offers checked on 30 October 2026:
| Total allowance | Active validity | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 5GB | 30 days | A$19.95 |
| 10GB | 30 days | A$28.95 |
| 20GB | 30 days | A$49.95 |
| 50GB | 30 days | A$248.95 |
The 50GB price was rechecked on 31 October 2026; the other facts retain their original check dates.
The 4GB example fits 5GB. The 9.9GB example just fits 10GB, including its chosen reserve; if the assumptions are shaky, reconsider the budget before relying on that small remaining margin. The 18.8GB example fits 20GB with 1.2GB left.
These selected offers allow 180 days to start after purchase. Their 30-day active validity starts separately at first supported-network connection. Data is one total allowance, not a daily refill. Check your selected offer's current conditions before buying.
If the trip is longer than 30 days, unused data doesn't extend these offers. Compare a supported service for the full duration rather than solving the data amount and forgetting the calendar.
Keep the budget under your control
Before departure, download media you can prepare and choose whether photo backup should use mobile data. During the trip, check the counter for the travel line and the apps behind the total. If the estimate starts running short, ask about the actual order's options rather than assuming it supports top-up or extension.
Buy before flying and save the setup email. Install after landing on working airport Wi-Fi; use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection if needed. Follow that order's roaming instructions and keep Australian-line data roaming off unless you've deliberately chosen its carrier service.
