A week in Japan can be a maps-and-messages trip or seven evenings of streaming. The difference matters more than the number of nights in the hotel, so start with what the phone will actually be doing.
The planner above gives you a starting estimate from dates, phone-use choices and any sharing. If no destination is selected, choose it first. Check both the amount of data and the number of usable days in its returned options; an allowance has to cover the trip as well as the estimated use.
A worked week, with the assumptions visible
Allow 0.3GB a day × 7 days, plus 0.5GB of extra uploads. The 2.6GB total becomes 3.25GB with 25% added.
Those are planning inputs, not a measured average. Use your own expected transfers or the planner estimate for a personal budget. If you use the planner result instead, its buffer is already included; don’t add the same 25% again.
The fixed 3GB option is short of this example; 5GB/30 days at A$14.95 fits the 3.25GB budget and the week. You don’t need to use all thirty days. Daily high-speed, whole-plan Unlimited and local KDDI offers have different limits and clocks, so compare their own terms if you need one of those instead.
Put the amount beside the period
The worked 7-day example below comes to 3.25GB including a 25% buffer. The current 5GB/30-day Japan option covers that assumed amount and period. Your own dates and use can produce a different result.
| Current option | Period | Price | Fit for this example |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3GB | 30 days | A$11.95 | Not enough data for this example |
| 5GB | 30 days | A$14.95 | Enough data and days for this example |
| 10GB | 30 days | A$19.95 | Enough data and days for this example |
| 20GB | 30 days | A$29.95 | Enough data and days for this example |
Match the places and the plan structure
The selected fixed-data option lists: Japan.
This is one allowance to use across the listed places. It does not refill each day or at a border. That lets you use more on a busy day and less on a quiet one. A daily plan works differently: you get a fresh fast-data allowance on its own daily schedule.
If you need a laptop connection, confirm sharing for the exact plan, phone and any separate data limit before buying. These offers make sharing dependent on the network and device, so enough gigabytes alone do not promise it will work. If we cannot confirm the work connection you need, arrange another suitable service for that task.
Keep the big downloads on Wi-Fi
Download entertainment and offline maps on Wi-Fi before travel. Pause cloud-photo backup and automatic app updates on mobile data. If those uploads were already in your starting usage total, don’t add them to the budget a second time.
For the actual offer, open Japan plans. Buy before flying and save the setup email; install after landing on working airport Wi-Fi, hotel Wi-Fi or another steady, trusted connection.
| Trip assumption | Arithmetic | Budget and current plan fit |
|---|---|---|
| Seven days; 250MB/day, plus 1GB reserve | 7 × 0.25GB + 1GB | 2.75GB; compare 3GB or 5GB |
| Fourteen days; 400MB/day, plus 1GB reserve | 14 × 0.4GB + 1GB | 6.6GB; 10GB leaves 3.4GB |
| Twenty-one days; 700MB/day, plus 2GB reserve | 21 × 0.7GB + 2GB | 16.7GB; 20GB leaves 3.3GB |
| Allowance and validity | Total AUD price | Start window after purchase |
|---|---|---|
| 3GB / 30 days | A$11.95 | 180 days |
| 5GB / 30 days | A$14.95 | 60 days |
| 10GB / 30 days | A$19.95 | 60 days |
| 20GB / 30 days | A$29.95 | 60 days |
