The short journey with a separate data question
If your Nice holiday includes Monaco, put it on the phone plan as a separate destination: France-only coverage doesn’t establish service there, and a Europe label doesn’t settle it either. One shared plan needs to name both places, however short the journey looks on the map.
Our France and Europe plans don’t currently include Monaco. The dedicated Monaco eSIM starts at A$38.95 for 1 GB, while Orange Travel advertises Monaco data from €3.99 and a Europe package naming both countries. Compare those actual purchases before adding a second plan for a small part of the holiday.
The selected prices and country lists below were checked on 25 October 2026. A$ means Australian dollars; Orange’s prices are euros. No exchange-rate estimate is presented as your final payment cost.
Which plans include Monaco as well as France?
The current SIM Shop Europe range lists 32 destinations without Monaco. Our France-only plan lists France. Neither should be chosen as Monaco cover because a French signal might be detectable nearby.
Orange Travel’s Europe offer expressly names France and Monaco. Its selected 20 GB / fourteen-day package with calls and texts costs €24.99. For a France-and-Monaco itinerary needing one shared allowance within a fortnight, that is the stronger option to consider among the purchases compared here.
Orange also advertises Monaco-specific data: 1 GB / seven days for €3.99, 5 GB / seven days for €8.99 and 20 GB / thirty days for €18.99. Those are useful standalone price references. A Monaco-labelled purchase doesn’t, by itself, establish that your French use is covered too; check the exact selected package.
What our dedicated Monaco plan buys
The SIM Shop Monaco eSIM provides these total-data allowances:
| Data | Validity | Price | Listed capability |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | A$38.95 | 4G/5G |
| 3 GB | 30 days | A$98.95 | 4G |
| 5 GB | 30 days | A$154.95 | 4G/5G |
All name Monaco Telecom as the network and supply data without ordinary voice or SMS. There is no daily reset. Hotspot availability depends on the network and device if you intend to share the connection.
For a short Monaco visit needing an estimated 500 MB, 1 GB at A$38.95 covers that stated amount with about 500 MB left. It is a specific Monaco data purchase through our store, priced in Australian dollars.
The selected plans begin validity on first network connection and have a 180-day first-use window. Eligible same-area reloads must remain within active validity. Choose the original duration to fit your Monaco use rather than assuming another data purchase restarts it.
Work out the two-country purchase before paying
Suppose a ten-day French holiday needs 4 GB in France and 500 MB during the Monaco visit. A separate SIM Shop combination is:
| Part of the trip | Plan | Price | Remaining against the estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| France | 5 GB / 30 days | A$14.95 | 1 GB |
| Monaco | 1 GB / 7 days | A$38.95 | About 500 MB |
| Total | Two destination plans | A$53.90 | Separate balances |
The Monaco visit must fit its seven-day service period, rather than occupy all ten days of the French holiday. These remain two country balances, not a shared 6 GB pool. Unused French data can’t be reassigned to Monaco.
Increase the Monaco estimate to 2 GB while leaving the French requirement at 4 GB, and the 1 GB purchase is too small. Moving to our 3 GB Monaco plan makes the combined price A$113.90: A$14.95 for France and A$98.95 for Monaco. That is A$60 more than the smaller combination.
Orange’s explicitly inclusive 20 GB / fourteen-day Europe offer has enough shared data for that stated 6 GB total, leaving 14 GB if the whole use fits its period. The charged currencies remain different, so we haven’t invented an exact Australian-dollar saving. The allowance and country inclusion still give it a clear reason to be in this comparison.
The France buying guide covers French local service and calling. The question here is the Monaco addition, rather than another full France comparison.
Monaco Telecom’s Travel Pass is for its customers going abroad
The Monaco Telecom Travel Pass page can appear when searching for a local Monaco service. It describes daily roaming and thirty-day passes, including a Traveller-zone 6 GB pass for €59.99, managed through the MyMT account for travel outside the customer’s included area.
That isn’t evidence of a €59.99 walk-in tourist SIM for an Australian arriving in Monaco. We haven’t used it as an incoming visitor purchase alternative. A local operator’s outbound roaming add-on and a travel eSIM for visiting its country answer different questions.
Set up for the destination on the purchase
For our plans, buy before travelling and keep the email, then install after arriving on working, trusted Wi-Fi. For an overland Monaco visit, use a steady trusted connection there to install the dedicated profile before relying on it. Name the profiles clearly, such as France data and Monaco data, and keep the instructions accessible offline.
Select the appropriate mobile-data line, disable automatic data switching and keep Australian-line data roaming off unless you deliberately intend to use that service. A travel profile doesn’t move your Australian number or change its overseas charges.
For a standalone store purchase, the dedicated Monaco plan supplies the named destination. For a larger France-and-Monaco requirement within fourteen days, the inclusive Orange Europe offer deserves the stronger recommendation here. Checking the actual entitlement is what prevents the short side trip from becoming an unexpected gap in the phone plan.
