Netherlands prepaid eSIM or travel eSIM: number, data and daily limits

Vodafone’s new prepaid eSIM supplies a Dutch incoming number, with outgoing calls charged separately and 2 GB per day in EU roaming. A Netherlands travel-data eSIM suits app use with one total allowance; choose a regional plan for other countries.

What you need the Dutch line to do

A Dutch number can be handy when your accommodation wants to call, but receiving that call doesn’t mean the eSIM bundle pays for your calls back. Add Belgium to the trip and the data needs a closer look too, since “unlimited in the Netherlands” doesn’t describe what follows you across the border.

Those are useful differences between Vodafone’s new prepaid eSIM and a fixed-data travel-data plan. Vodafone provides a Dutch number with incoming calls and SMS; its included data has daily rules. Our Netherlands eSIM is data-only, with one allowance to use across its validity. The better fit depends on what you need the phone to do during the stay.

The selected plans and public purchase routes below were checked on 25 October 2026. Vodafone prices are euros. SIM Shop prices are Australian dollars, so compare using the relevant payment rate rather than the size of the printed number.

Start at the right Vodafone purchase route

Vodafone’s new prepaid eSIM service offers a digitally delivered new line, with an installation link or QR sent by email. Its FAQ lists seven days for €14, fourteen for €24 and thirty for €44. The first selection screen we checked displayed seven- and fourteen-day choices; check the actual selectable offer and final summary before paying.

This is distinct from converting an existing prepaid SIM. Vodafone’s general eSIM help describes a posted or shop-collected voucher for that conversion. It doesn’t mean every new prepaid eSIM customer must wait for the post.

The new service can receive ordinary calls and SMS on its Dutch number. The advertised data bundle doesn’t include outgoing calls or texts; add credit separately if you need those. For an accommodation callback followed by a reply through an internet app, that number can be useful. For a priced allowance of outgoing telephone calls, the data purchase alone doesn’t meet the requirement.

Our Netherlands plans don’t supply a Dutch number or ordinary calling. If receiving those callbacks is essential, that difference matters more than another few gigabytes.

The daily allowance changes once you leave the Netherlands

For this new Vodafone eSIM, the FAQ gives you up to 25GB a day in the Netherlands before a possible slowdown. In the EU, the stated amount is 2GB a day; beyond that it mentions possible extra charges or another top-up, without confirming a price or exact outcome. Don’t assume that using more simply gives you free slower data.

Suppose you need 3 GB on one day in Belgium. That exceeds the stated daily allowance by 1 GB, even if you used almost nothing yesterday. Fourteen days at 2 GB per day isn’t a freely spendable 28 GB pool.

There is a published difference worth keeping straight. Vodafone’s general prepaid bundle page lists 25 GB in the EU on its seven-day bundle, while the new-order eSIM FAQ states 2 GB per day. Use the conditions for the purchase you are making rather than lifting the more generous figure from the other page.

If a busy day abroad needs more than that, compare a regional total-data plan with enough allowance and the right country list. Our Europe eSIM guide covers that choice. A Netherlands-only SIM Shop plan won’t cover a Belgian day either.

Seven calendar days aren’t seven full 24-hour periods

The new Vodafone eSIM explanation starts validity with the first network connection and data use, then ends it at 23:59 Dutch time on the final numbered day. Its example starts on Monday at 15:00 and ends on Sunday at 23:59 for the seven-day bundle.

That reaches a Sunday-night departure, but not a Monday-morning one. If you need service over eight calendar days, choose enough validity rather than counting seven full days forward from the activation hour.

Also read the payable order’s dates. The public fourteen-day summary we opened on 25 October already displayed 7 November 2026 at 23:59 as its expiry, before we entered customer details. We wouldn’t rely on the FAQ alone to justify buying this particular offer months in advance. Check that the order actually covers your trip; we didn’t complete payment or test activation.

One data pool can suit uneven days

Our Netherlands eSIM gives you a set total. A day spent mostly on Wi-Fi leaves more of the pool for a day when you’re relying on mobile data. It doesn’t reset or refill each morning.

Your stated Netherlands-only needSIM Shop plan that fitsPrice
Six days, 0.8 GB1 GB / 7 daysA$5.95
Seven days, 4 GB5 GB / 30 daysA$17.95
Ten days, 6 GB10 GB / 30 daysA$27.95
Thirty-five days, 40 GB50 GB / 180 daysA$149.95

The range also includes 3 GB / 30 days for A$13.95 and 20 GB / 30 days for A$44.95. The long-validity option contains 50 GB once across 180 days, rather than 50 GB each month.

For the ten-day example, 5 GB would be 1 GB short. Another A$10 buys the 10 GB choice with 4 GB above the stated estimate. For the 35-day example, duration rules out the 30-day options regardless of their unused allowance. These are calculations with chosen budgets, rather than predictions of how much data every visitor uses.

Our plans list KPN and Vodafone as networks. If sharing data with another device matters to your choice, hotspot availability depends on the network and your phone.

For app-based travel, the appeal is a defined Australian-dollar purchase with enough data and time for the itinerary. Vodafone’s incoming Dutch number may be more useful for a different visitor. Choose on that basis before comparing headline allowances.

Once you’ve chosen the plan

Our selected plans start on first network connection and must begin within 180 days of purchase. Once those dates fit, use the Netherlands setup guide for the phone steps after arrival.

The questions to settle first are simpler: do you need a Dutch number, how much data must be usable on your busiest day, and where will you be using it? Once those answers fit the offer, the phone settings can follow.
