Norway eSIM without BankID: travel data or a local number?

Keep the actual Mycall shop route with the need for a Norwegian number, then carry its recurring payment and cancellation into the departure plan.

Choosing the service before the paperwork

If you don’t have Norway’s BankID, it is easy to mistake an online ordering requirement for a rule about every Norwegian SIM. Mycall makes a useful distinction: it offers an identification route without a Norwegian personal number, and directs customers without BankID to a Mycall Shop for help ordering an eSIM.

You may not need that local service at all. A data-only travel eSIM suits maps, bookings and internet messages; a Norwegian number and ordinary domestic calling are different requirements. Decide which you need before choosing a registration process, then give the end of the service as much thought as the start.

The named offers and public guidance below were checked on 25 October 2026. Mycall prices are Norwegian kroner, shown as NOK. SIM Shop prices are Australian dollars.

Registration, BankID and shop assistance are different steps

Mycall’s SIM and eSIM help explicitly describes help at a Mycall Shop for customers who cannot order an eSIM themselves without BankID. You must provide identification. That gives a visitor a documented alternative to the self-service route, rather than another online form to try with the same missing credential.

Arrange eSIM through the online self-service processBankID is required for customers ordering it themselves

The Mycall Norge page describes starter packs at Mycall shops, Narvesen and 7-Eleven. Registration still involves an identity check. We haven’t submitted an Australian visitor’s documents, so the published route isn’t a guarantee of approval for a particular passport or application.

If you need the local eSIM, use the operator’s assisted route and take a compatible, unlocked phone. If you only need mobile data, compare that extra service and process against a fixed-data travel plan before committing to it.

What a Norwegian number adds

Mycall Norge lists 10 GB for NOK299 per month and 30 GB for NOK399 per month, with ordinary calls within Norway and SMS/MMS from Norway to the world. The international messaging inclusion doesn’t make ordinary calls to Australia part of the allowance.

For a ten-day visit needing 8 GB and calls to Norwegian accommodation providers, the 10 GB option fits the stated data and domestic calling requirements. If the calls home happen through an internet app, they can use data. If you need to dial an Australian landline or mobile normally, choose an international calling service that explicitly includes Australian numbers, or use your home carrier’s roaming under its own rates. Domestic Norwegian minutes don’t make that call free.

Mycall’s Extra SIM shares the main number and data quota. Two cards don’t turn a single 10 GB allowance into 10 GB for each traveller. Couples who need separate numbers and allowances should compare separate services.

Put cancellation on the departure list

The Mycall Norge payment described on its page is recurring monthly payment. Treat it as an ongoing service, rather than assuming the next charge disappears when you leave Norway.

Its mobile-specific terms say termination must be in writing and normally takes effect the day after notice is received, unless the notice specifies otherwise. Charges through the current billing period remain payable. Use the details on Mycall’s contact page, state your number and intended end date, and retain the response.

Deleting the eSIM from the phone doesn’t send that notice. Nor does an early departure establish a partial refund. This is a small administrative job worth organising before the flight home, when the number and account details are still easy to find.

When a fixed data purchase is enough

Our Norway eSIM provides mobile data without a Norwegian telephone number, ordinary calls or SMS. You buy a total allowance for the selected validity period, rather than a recurring monthly service.

SIM Shop total dataValidityPrice
1 GB7 daysA$5.95
3 GB30 daysA$13.95
5 GB30 daysA$17.95
10 GB30 daysA$27.95
20 GB30 daysA$44.95
50 GB180 daysA$149.95

For six days and an estimated 800 MB of use, the 1 GB plan leaves about 200 MB. For twelve days and 8 GB, the 10 GB plan leaves 2 GB. Those examples fit a traveller whose contact arrangements work through apps, with no need for an ordinary Norwegian number.

Duration becomes more important on a longer visit. Five weeks with a 40 GB estimate fits the 50 GB / 180-day option with 10 GB spare. A 30-day option stops too early, however much data is left. The 180-day plan contains 50 GB in total, rather than 50 GB every month.

The Australian-dollar price and defined pool make our plan useful for that sort of trip. Arrange it before departure, then use more data on a busy day and less when accommodation Wi-Fi is available. The listed networks are Telenor and Telia; that doesn’t establish a particular speed or signal beside every fjord. Hotspot availability depends on the network and device, and an eligible reload doesn’t promise more days.

Check any travel beyond mainland Norway separately

A Sweden–Norway itinerary needs coverage in both countries. Our Europe eSIM buying guide covers the regional comparison; check the actual country list before buying.

A mainland Norway plan doesn’t confirm service in Svalbard or on a ship’s onboard mobile network. Arrange explicit coverage for either if you need it, rather than treating the Norway label as enough.

For our eSIM, buy before travelling and save the email, then install after landing on working airport, hotel or other steady trusted Wi-Fi. The listed validity starts on first network connection. The Norway setup guide covers the phone settings separately.

Without BankID, you still have a choice. Use the assisted local route when you need a Norwegian calling service, including a deliberate cancellation plan. For app-based travel, choose enough data and days for the visit and leave the monthly subscription out of the holiday admin.
