Face-to-face help can be the deciding feature
Sim Local has physical airport retail and is Heathrow’s announced eSIM partner. If you arrive needing someone to help with a handset and a current plan, an attended shop can be useful. Confirm the actual terminal, opening hours and service offered; an online purchase doesn’t automatically include help at every counter.

One current Japan allowance
Sim Local’s Japan selection page lists a 10GB/30-day data offer at US$16.25 in the captured view. Our Japan 10GB/30-day fixed offer is A$19.95. Keep the different currencies visible and compare the final payment total.
For a planned 8GB total over a fortnight, both listed amounts fit that phone-data budget. That doesn’t prove equal hotspot terms, routing or network performance.
Buying before departure versus asking after arrival
Buying online in advance gives you time to confirm the exact phone and allocate profiles to travellers. An airport shop can help when something has changed or the phone wasn’t prepared. The practical cost is time at that terminal and whichever current offers it stocks.
For our purchase, save the setup email before flying and install after landing on steady Wi-Fi. Follow Sim Local’s own instructions if you buy from them. Installation and start rules belong to the chosen service.
A local number is a separate purchase requirement
The Japan fixed-data examples don’t include an ordinary local number. If you need a local business to ring you, ask the seller for the specific number and ordinary call/SMS inclusions before paying. “Airport eSIM” doesn’t establish those features.
Which would we choose?
If the priority is an attended counter at a supported airport, put that service ahead of a small data-price difference. If you’re comfortable setting up a compatible phone from an email, compare the suitable online offers and their total prices. We don’t need to pretend the same arrangement suits both travellers.
