Start with the connected device
“Hotspot allowed” is only the first answer. You still need the separate sharing allowance, whether it resets and what happens at the limit. Unlimited on the phone doesn’t automatically mean the same service on a laptop.
Japan examples that behave differently

A completed laptop decision
Suppose you plan one 2GB file transfer and 1GB of other laptop use on each of three workdays. That’s 9GB of sharing. A 6GB whole-plan cap falls 3GB short. A 1GB/day sharing limit also fails each planned 3GB day. Of the two SIM Shop seven-day examples above, the full-speed offer is the suitable sharing choice.
This is transfer-size arithmetic, not a claim that a particular meeting app uses 1GB or that a mobile connection will meet a work deadline. Arrange a usable accommodation or workplace connection as a fallback for work you can’t postpone.
Airalo’s default rule is about speed too
Airalo’s unlimited fair-use policy allows tethering without a separate tethering/device limit. Its default high-speed threshold is 3GB per 24-hour cycle, then 1Mbps until reset; a different threshold can be stated in the package. A plan can permit sharing while its shared connection still reaches the package’s speed limit.
Don’t let the laptop do another job in the background
Set the hotspot network as metered on Windows or use Low Data Mode on a supported Mac. Pause unnecessary cloud sync, photo backup and large downloads. Our laptop guide gives the checks. Turn hotspot off after the session.
If the offer doesn’t confirm sharing, give the seller the plan name, connected device and how much you expect to transfer before buying. Choose a confirmed alternative if it can’t establish that the plan supports the job. A shop saying it hasn’t added a limit doesn’t confirm that the supplier supports sharing.
