Four to eight gigabytes is a useful planning range for a week of maps, messages and browsing. Our 10GB plans cost between A$16.95 and A$19.95 depending on destination and run for thirty days. If your usage fits within that bucket, fixed costs less.
Unlimited earns its price on a different shape of trip: a month in one place, a shared connection, daily uploads, or long transit days. This page is how to tell which one you are before you pay for either.
The four trips where a fixed plan is the better buy
The short city break. Three or four days with hotel wifi every night. A 10GB plan covers it with room to spare.
The wifi-heavy trip. One place, reliable accommodation wifi, mobile data topping it up rather than carrying it.
The light user. Maps, messages, occasional socials. If this is your usage, a fixed plan does it for less.
The trip booked a long way ahead. The unlimited range has a 60-day start window. Some fixed-data variations have longer windows, but check the exact selected plan before buying months ahead.

In Indonesia and Japan, the 20GB fixed plan costs less than the full-speed seven-day unlimited plan. Thailand 20GB is A$29.95, which costs more than its A$24.95 seven-day unlimited plan, so compare the actual selected plans rather than assuming 20GB is always cheaper.
When unlimited is the right buy
A month or more in one place, particularly if you are working. Sharing a connection with a partner or a laptop, where Japan full-speed has no separate tethering allowance. Uploading photos or video daily. Long transit days as the shape of the whole trip. Or simply preferring to pay a bit more and never think about it, which is a perfectly good reason.
On those trips the no-threshold terms on our Indonesia and Japan full-speed plans are the strongest thing we sell, and the price difference stops being the deciding factor.
The one where unlimited wins outright
Thailand for thirty days is A$85.95 against A$89.95 for our 50GB plan. It costs less and offers twice the high-speed data. Both selected plans have a 60-day start window, so compare the unlimited plan’s 10Mbps speed ceiling before choosing.
Thailand unlimited has 100GB across the whole plan at up to 10Mbps, then continues at 384kbps.

Should I buy an unlimited travel eSIM?
It depends on the trip. If four to eight gigabytes covers your week, a 10GB fixed plan costs less. Unlimited is the buy for long stays, shared connections, daily uploading or long transit days.

I am not sure how much I use. Should I buy unlimited to be safe?
That is a fair reason to choose it, and on a week-long trip it costs five to nineteen dollars more than a 10GB plan. If you would rather not pay that, check your usage at home for a week first, since travel use is usually similar.
What if I run out?
Contact us or select a new compatible plan before your allowance runs out. A second purchase may require a new eSIM installation; do not assume the existing QR can be topped up or reused. Compare the combined cost with unlimited before buying.
