Choose fixed or unlimited before comparing prices
Airalo offers both fixed-data and unlimited options. A page opening on Unlimited doesn’t mean Standard fixed data is unavailable. Choose the allowance model first, then the country and duration you need.
For a Japan data budget
Our Japan 10GB/30-day fixed offer is A$19.95. For a planned 8GB total across 14 days, it fits with 2GB spare. Match that need against Airalo’s selected fixed-data offer and final checkout currency; don’t compare our 10GB total with its cheapest 1GB headline.
If the phone needs a planned 4GB a day for seven days, that’s 28GB. The 10GB offer doesn’t fit, no matter how attractive its price is. That’s when a larger pool or a suitable unlimited offer belongs in the comparison.
Airalo’s unlimited fair-use rule
Airalo’s default unlimited rule gives you 3GB at faster speeds in each 24-hour period from activation, then 1Mbps until that period resets. An individual package can state a different amount, so use its details. The default reset isn’t necessarily local midnight. Personal hotspot is allowed without a separate sharing or device-count limit under that policy, but shared use can still reach the faster-data threshold.
Permission to share doesn’t mean unlimited high-speed sharing. A planned 4GB combined phone-and-laptop day exceeds the default 3GB high-speed threshold. Match the selected package, not just the word unlimited.
Our Japan sharing examples differ too
Our seven-day Japan 10Mbps unlimited offer is A$24.95 with 6GB of hotspot across the whole plan. The seven-day full-speed offer is A$34.95 with no separate hotspot allowance. Longer local KDDI offers have different sharing, rolling fair-use and Japan-calendar-day terms. Keep those conditions with their exact family.
Rewards shouldn’t hide the purchase price
Airalo’s programme starts at 5% Airmoney and has higher tiers. New customers shouldn’t assume they earn 10%. SIM Shop Credit earns 5% on eligible spend with caps, a pending period and 12-month expiry. Both are future-use benefits rather than cash already deducted from today’s order.
Which would we choose?
For a workable data budget, compare the suitable fixed offers. For heavier or uncertain use, compare the actual high-speed and reset rules, plus hotspot. Airalo’s broad app-based range can be convenient; our selected AUD offer and support route may suit another traveller. Neither company name answers the whole trip.
