If you already use ALDI Mobile, another travel-data purchase may be one more thing you don’t need to organise. A small pack on the number you know can be an easy answer for a light-use trip. Once you expect more data, though, it’s worth putting that convenience beside the price of a separate allowance.
We sell the eSIMs in this comparison, so our job here is to show where each purchase fits. A five-cent saving and a saving on a whole week’s data are rather different reasons to add another line to your phone.
Start with the ALDI pack that covers the trip
Your domestic ALDI allowance stays separate from these overseas packs. For an eligible service, the selected options on the live pack page and Critical Information Summary are:

The prices are extra to your underlying ALDI service. Global Travel also supplies ordinary minutes and SMS, so someone who needs hotels or family to call their Australian number has something useful to include in the comparison. The pack’s own calling-destination list still matters alongside its data countries.
Put the purchase date beside the flight date
The ALDI countdown starts when you buy the pack, with expiry at midnight Australian Eastern Time seven days after activation. Buy on 3 November for a 10 November arrival and you’ve used its running time before the holiday. You can enable roaming on the service in your account before departure, while leaving the pack purchase until the timing fits ALDI’s instructions and displayed expiry.
That timing needs another look for a fortnight away. Buying the same pack again while it’s active replaces it and loses what remains; it doesn’t queue a fresh week for later. The current page permits up to two data packs and two travel packs in a calendar day, but those purchase limits don’t join their clocks together.
For two weeks, time the second purchase after the first ends, checking that its displayed expiry reaches the last day you need service. My ALDI Mobile in a browser is the route if the app doesn’t offer the purchase. It’s much easier to settle that account access at home than while the airport Wi-Fi is asking you to sign in again.
A week away with 5GB to use
Suppose the trip is 10–16 November and you’ve budgeted 5GB of mobile data. With an already eligible ALDI service and no other charges, Global Travel is the pack that supplies that amount. These selected eSIM alternatives supply data only, rather than the same ordinary calls and SMS:

The eSIM costs less for each stated data budget, while ALDI’s 30 minutes and 50 SMS may earn their extra price if you’ll use them. App calls can use travel data, but a data-only eSIM doesn’t make an ordinary carrier call or bank text free. Our bank SMS guide explains what still depends on the Australian number.
Keep the pack’s actual expiry beside the example too: seven dates on an itinerary don’t necessarily mean seven fully usable days if you bought it before departure. The selected Japan data plans, Bali and Indonesia data plans and New Zealand data plans show the separate eSIM allowance, validity and start rule.
When we’d keep the ALDI pack
For a New Zealand trip needing just 1GB, ALDI’s Pacific pack is A$5 and our selected NZ 1GB/7-day offer is A$4.95. If the ALDI service and timing fit, saving five cents is hardly a reason to spend your evening labelling another SIM. Keeping the pack can be the simpler choice.
The same applies when its ordinary calls and SMS are useful enough to justify the difference. If your phone time will mostly be in maps, bookings and messaging apps, the larger data comparison above becomes more relevant.
Have the chosen connection ready for arrival
Before buying our eSIM, check that your phone is compatible and unlocked. The selected 5GB offers start on first network connection: Japan has 60 days to start after purchase, while Indonesia and New Zealand have 180 days. Those windows belong to these offers, so use the exact one you’re buying when choosing the purchase date.
Save the setup email before flying, then install after landing on steady airport Wi-Fi, or hotel Wi-Fi if the airport connection won’t work. Select the travel line for mobile data and check the Australian service’s own settings and charging rules separately. With the allowance and the number each doing the job you chose, the trip can get a little more attention than the phone settings.
