The current pack choices
Compare what you will use across the year, not just the number of expiry days. A 365-day pack containing 2GB still contains only 2GB in total. It does not refresh every month or every time you cross a border.

All four have 365-day expiry from purchase. Calls you receive as well as calls you make use the minute allowance. Buying another pack before expiry can roll unused inclusions into the new expiry period. Keep track of the actual balance in the app rather than assuming a new trip restores your allowance.
A four-trip worksheet
Start with the work you need the phone to do. For each trip, estimate mobile data after Wi-Fi and offline downloads, ordinary call minutes, and texts you expect to send. Use your phone’s previous trip usage if you have it; a guess based only on trip length can miss a day of video calls or hotspot use.

In the first example, A$25 divided across four trips is A$6.25 per trip. That is an allocation of one purchase, not a separate A$6.25 offer. It works only if the combined usage stays within the pack and every trip falls within its remaining validity.
For one bigger holiday, do the data maths separately
Our Indonesia 10GB / 30-day eSIM is A$17.95. amaysim’s The Epic is A$70 for 9GB plus 100 minutes and 60 SMS, with a much longer expiry. The purchase-price difference is A$52.05, but the plans solve different needs: one supplies travel data for the holiday; the other includes ordinary communication and the ability to carry unused allowances into later trips.
A useful middle option for an eligible traveller is Small Talk plus travel data. Small Talk at A$20 and our Japan 10GB / 30-day plan at A$19.95 total A$39.95. That gives separate allowances with separate clocks: 100 minutes and 100 SMS over amaysim’s validity, and 10GB of data over the eSIM’s 30 days. Your usual Australian service cost remains additional.
This combination is practical only if your phone can run both lines and both products cover the destination. It adds one more setup step, so someone making frequent work calls may reasonably prefer a single-provider arrangement.
Check the route and your account before paying
Use amaysim’s current destination list and the offer shown in your app. Its public page displays differing destination totals, so an advertised count is less useful than checking the countries you will actually visit. Include stopovers and side trips. A pack is not worldwide coverage.
Your amaysim number must remain active. A roaming pack is separate from the domestic plan’s inclusions and expiry; it does not rescue a disconnected number. Before each departure, open the amaysim app’s international-roaming pack details and record remaining data, minutes, texts and expiry. For the four-trip worksheet, after two 500MB trips you should budget only 1GB for the last two, subject to the actual reading. If the app shows less, revise the later trips or buy another pack before needing it; the itinerary does not replenish the balance.
Set up both lines with clear jobs
If using both, label the Australian line “amaysim” and the other “Travel data”. Set mobile data to the travel eSIM, keep amaysim data roaming off and disable automatic data switching. Keep the amaysim line on only where you want its service and understand the applicable call, text and voicemail terms.
