Choose the service for what you'll actually use. The driver finding the right villa entrance matters more than the biggest data headline.
A fortnight with 8GB planned use
This is an illustrative trip budget, not an average for Bali. Our Indonesia 10GB/30-day plan is A$17.95, leaving 2GB against that assumed 8GB. The selected fixed offer includes Bali, starts at first supported-network connection and has 180 days from purchase to start.
For a shorter visit needing 2GB, our 3GB/30-day offer is A$9.95, leaving 1GB. A thirty-day label doesn't require a thirty-day holiday; it is the maximum running time to use that total.
These fixed offers don't provide an ordinary Indonesian number, calls or SMS. Supported app calls use their data. Sharing may depend on the phone and network, so ask about the exact option if a laptop is essential.
A local tourist eSIM can be bought online
XL's foreign-visitor page lists 14GB/30 days for Rp46,000 and 30GB/30 days for Rp70,000, each with five all-operator call minutes. Those minutes don't establish included calls to Australia.
Its tourist route is for foreign nationals with a valid foreign passport; the purchase process requests passport, email and IMEI details. XL describes activation upon purchase and allows up to an hour for registration/signal checks after the QR email. Buy when ready to use it in Indonesia, rather than spending its days before departure.
For the 8GB example, the 14GB option leaves 6GB. Keep rupiah and AUD separate until comparing actual payable costs. The local number and ordinary-call inclusion may be more useful than the extra data if a business needs a conventional phone call.
Telkomsel's general new-number eSIM route instead specifies KITAS for foreign citizens. That particular route isn't our recommendation for a passport-only holiday visitor. It does not prove every Telkomsel tourist channel has the same rule.
Australian roaming keeps a different service
For example, an eligible Telstra Zone 2 Day Pass is A$10 for 2GB per charged period; eligible Optus Daily Roaming is A$5 for 5GB per 24 hours, with another charge if that data is spent and use continues. Vodafone A$5 Roaming uses eligible monthly-plan inclusions with its exclusions and annual limit.
Fourteen charged A$5 periods total A$70; fourteen A$10 periods total A$140. These are arithmetic examples, not predictions of your bill. Calls, sent texts, background data and differing clocks can determine the actual charged periods. Domestic plan charges are separate.
Roaming may suit someone who values ordinary calls on the existing number. For app data alone, include the full trip cost rather than comparing one roaming day with an entire travel allowance. Our carrier eligibility guide explains the named routes and precise account questions.
Arrive with the email and address saved
Buy our plan before departure within its start window; install after landing on working airport Wi-Fi after sign-in and a webpage test. Use hotel or another steady trusted Wi-Fi connection if that fails. Select the travel line for data, keep Australian-line data roaming off and disable automatic switching.
Turning data roaming off doesn't stop ordinary call, SMS or voicemail charges on an active Australian line. Keep that service only for the tasks you need under its carrier terms. Save the pickup point and villa instructions offline while you get connected.
