So the checkout break-even is two countries when every stop is inside the seven-country list. That is a price comparison, not an equal-data comparison: two single-country plans give you two separate 10GB buckets, while the regional plan shares one 10GB allowance across the trip.

The same arithmetic on SimCorner’s A$34.00 plan produces the same two-country break-even, with a A$0.95 lower checkout price than ours. Whether that A$0.95 matters depends on which plan actually covers every stop.

Japan changes the decision. Japan is not in our seven-country Southeast Asia plan. Bali plus Japan is A$37.90 using two of our single-country plans, while our broader 20-country Asia plan is A$59.95. In that itinerary, the two single-country plans are A$22.05 cheaper and give you separate data buckets.

Three things the arithmetic misses, and they matter.

Ten gigabytes across five countries is not much. If you are doing a five country trip you are probably away longer, and one 10GB regional plan may not be enough. Compare the 20GB tiers before you decide.

Single country plans mean installing several eSIMs. Most modern phones hold multiple profiles but only one or two active at a time, and switching between them at each border is friction you may not want. Airalo treats a deleted eSIM as unrecoverable, so do not plan to delete each one as you finish with it.

Coverage lists differ. A regional plan covers the countries on its list and nothing else. Two providers’ “Asia” plans can cover meaningfully different countries.

Check the coverage list before the price

This is the mistake that costs people the most on this query.

“Asia” is a marketing word, not a defined coverage area. Regional plans in this category cover somewhere between eight and twenty-two countries, and the lists genuinely differ.

Countries to check by name before you buy, because they are the common gaps:

China. Frequently excluded from Asia regional plans, or included on some plans and not others. If China is on your itinerary, check it specifically.

Japan and South Korea. Often in the more expensive regional tiers rather than the base one.

India. Sometimes a separate region entirely.

Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and the Maldives. Frequently outside an “Asia” plan despite being in Asia.

Australia and New Zealand. Some Asia-Pacific plans include them, some do not, and if you are transiting home that is worth knowing.

Some providers sell narrower, cheaper regional plans too, covering three to eight South East Asian countries rather than a whole continent. If your trip is Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, one of those is usually better value than a full Asia plan.

Open the list, find your countries, then compare prices. Not the other way round.

We also sell an Asia 12 Areas plan and we would not point you at it. It is A$64.95 for 10GB, which is five dollars more than the twenty-destination plan above, for eight fewer countries, and its page states 3G/4G where the other two state 3G/4G/5G. If you were considering it, the Asia plan is the better buy.

One more comparison, and it is an awkward one. Our Australia and New Zealand plan is A$64.95 for 10GB over 30 days. The Asia plan above is A$59.95 and covers both of those countries plus eighteen others. If your trip is only Australia and New Zealand, compare the two before you buy, because at that tier the wider plan is currently the cheaper one.

What to compare before choosing

Dated comparison examples

On the single country plans, and it is worth setting out because it changes the decision.

Compare country plans against the regional option using the same itinerary, travel dates and total price. A country plan can be useful when it covers the only stop where you need data.

For a two-country trip, the route decides it. Thailand plus Vietnam is A$36.90 as two of our single-country plans or A$34.95 on our seven-country regional plan. Bali plus Japan is different because Japan is outside that seven-country list: the two single-country plans total A$37.90 against our broader Asia plan at A$59.95.

That is the genuinely useful finding on this query. Sometimes the repriced regional plan wins at two countries; sometimes a country outside its coverage makes two single-country plans the better buy.

Saily’s reset design is worth a second look specifically for multi country travel. Which countries do Asia regional eSIM plans cover?

It varies enormously, from about eight to twenty-two countries. China, Japan, South Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Maldives are the common gaps. Open the provider’s own coverage list and find your countries by name before comparing prices.

Do I need a new eSIM for each country in Asia?

Not if you buy a regional plan covering them all. If you buy single country plans, you need one per country, which means installing several profiles and switching between them at borders. Do not delete them as you go, because some providers treat a deleted eSIM as unrecoverable.
