In this guide 7 sections
We'll compare those first three stops on a 14-day example: 8GB of assumed use fits our A$31.95 10GB plan. Then we'll look at what changes if you need ordinary calls, add another country or prefer to buy a local service. We sell travel eSIMs, but there are trips where roaming or a local number is the more useful purchase.
Put the three options against your own trip
| Option | A reason to choose it | What could rule it out |
|---|---|---|
| Regional travel eSIM | One listed allowance can cover several included countries | A missing stop, insufficient validity, or a hotspot limitation |
| Australian-carrier roaming | Your usual number and eligible call/data bundle in one arrangement | Destination exclusions, daily charges, excess use or eligibility |
| Local operator's SIM/eSIM | A specific local service or number you need | Purchase/registration requirements, setup time or unsuitable onward-country allowance |
For a local operator, find its included-country list, the data usable outside the purchase country and its expiry date. If the onward stop is missing or the roaming allowance won't meet your budget, that local plan doesn't cover the whole route. For your Australian carrier, get the charge for each country on your own service and multiply it by the days you'll actually use it; the example below shows that calculation.
A London, Paris and Rome example
Those three countries appear in our current 32-country Europe list. Suppose you're away for 14 days and budget 0.5GB a day plus a 1GB reserve: that's 8GB. This is an assumed budget, not a measured average.
Our selected 10GB/30-day Europe plan is A$31.95, checked on 30 October 2026. It covers that example's data and duration, with one allowance shared across the covered countries. It is data-only and hotspot availability may depend on the network and phone.
Now put your own carrier's total beside A$31.95. Include every chargeable day, any extra-data cost and the value to you of ordinary calls. If your carrier quote is A$10 on each of 14 chargeable days, the base total is A$140; that's hypothetical arithmetic, not a statement that every carrier charges that rate.
If you'll make work calls on your Australian number, the cheapest data-only row may not solve the whole job. If you mainly need messages and maps, paying for a call bundle you won't use may be unnecessary. Keep both needs visible.
The detour that changes the choice
Our current Europe list includes the UK, Switzerland and Turkey. It excludes Morocco, Serbia, Monaco and Guernsey. Add one of those stops and the same regional offer no longer covers the full itinerary.
Treat the missing stop as a separate purchase decision. For a Morocco detour, add an offer that explicitly includes Morocco and covers those dates, or use your Australian service only after confirming its Morocco rate. Keep the Europe allowance for its included stops. Buying more Europe data doesn't add Morocco.
Check the current Europe country list for every data-needed stop. Coverage within a listed country also depends on the local network; country membership isn't a promise of signal on every road.
Keep your number without assuming the bill
On a suitable dual-SIM phone you can assign travel data separately from the Australian line. Keeping that Australian line available for incoming bank texts depends on your carrier's roaming service and the bank sending the code. Turning its data roaming off doesn't make ordinary calls or voicemail free.
Before departure, decide whether you'll keep it enabled, what use you're prepared to pay for and how you'll handle verification if a text doesn't arrive. Then buy the data plan that fits that arrangement.
Buy before flying, install after landing
Save the SIM Shop setup email before departure. After arrival, finish airport Wi-Fi sign-in and confirm a webpage loads, then install from that email. Use hotel Wi-Fi or another steady trusted connection if the airport connection fails. Our Europe setup guide explains the data-line checks.
If you already own a retired Europe offer, its issued coverage and expiry still govern that purchase. The historical reference below is for identifying those older plans, not for choosing a current one.
Sources and check date
SIM Shop current offer, coverage, start window and hotspot note checked against the live catalogue on 30 October 2026. The selected 10GB offer has 30 days of active validity from first network connection and 60 days to start after buying. Current Europe plans. Carrier and local-operator quotes must be checked for the service you actually hold or intend to buy.
Previously issued Europe range: historical reference
The following records describe the retired Europe range checked on 19 July 2026. They help identify an older purchase and are not current offers or instructions to buy. The country list and example amounts below are preserved from that record; your order email and issued plan govern your own service.
Recorded country and territory list: Austria, Åland Islands, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Iceland, Italy, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, North Macedonia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine.
| Recorded example | Recorded price |
|---|---|
| 1GB, seven days | A$8.95 |
| 5GB, 30 days | A$29.95 |
| 20GB, 90 days | A$99.95 |
The historical 41-destination range and today's 32-country range have different coverage. Do not carry an older Morocco, Guernsey or other inclusion into a new purchase. For a new trip, use the current Europe product.
