Roaming vs eSIM

South Korea data: travel eSIM, roaming or a local tourist service?

Choose South Korea data around app use, keeping KT’s actual airport calling purchase and identity-verification limit beside the local-number decision.

In this guide 5 sections

For an illustrative ten-day trip expecting 8GB, our 10GB/30-day South Korea plan at A$27.95 fits with 2GB spare. The ordinary-call requirement is a separate decision.

A defined allowance for apps

Our South Korea fixed offers include 3GB/30 days for A$13.95, 5GB/30 days for A$17.95, 10GB/30 days for A$27.95 and 20GB/30 days for A$44.95.

For a five-day visit budgeted at 2GB, 3GB leaves 1GB. For the stated 8GB trip, 5GB is 3GB short and 10GB leaves 2GB. Those are chosen inputs, not national usage averages. A thirty-day plan can suit a shorter visit; the data remains one total pool.

These selected fixed offers start at first supported-network connection and have sixty days from purchase to start. They are data-only and non-reloadable, with data stopping when the allowance is spent. Sharing may depend on the phone and network; resolve essential laptop use before buying.

Our separate seven-day unlimited South Korea plan is A$34.95. Its published average roaming speed is 10–20Mbps, as an estimate rather than a guarantee. The stated terms have no total data limit or routine fair-use threshold, and allow personal hotspot without a separate sharing allowance. It still only lasts seven days, so choose a duration that covers your whole stay.

KT distinguishes data eSIM from outgoing calls

KT's current tourist page has a data-only eSIM route available online or at its airport roaming centre. Its outgoing-call/SMS-capable prepaid eSIM route is an on-site airport purchase, with voice/SMS available after the required entry/identity verification.

Its data-only product cannot simply receive a voice top-up later. If you know you'll need ordinary outgoing calls to accommodation or a business, choose the calling route at the counter rather than hoping the data-only purchase can become it.

KT publishes 11GB high-speed data a day, then 5Mbps, with the daily amount returning at midnight. The price depends on the chosen product and duration; obtain the quoted full price for that selection before paying. Its tourist service has a maximum ninety-day total period including extensions.

KT explicitly says the tourist eSIM doesn't support personal authentication. An 010 number on a visitor service therefore isn't a guarantee of Korean identity-verification access. If a booking requires that verification, ask the business for its foreign-visitor booking route or arrange the booking through staff instead of buying more data to fix it.

Australian roaming supplies your existing service

Roaming may suit someone who wants supported ordinary calls and texts on the Australian number, subject to carrier eligibility and destination terms. Ten charged A$5 periods total A$50; ten A$10 periods total A$100, before the domestic plan cost. Actual triggers and clock periods determine the bill.

The roaming eligibility guide separates those products. Incoming bank SMS is another task: prepare the bank's available app-based alternative before departure and confirm your carrier's SMS receipt conditions.

Prepare the first connection and the next-country leg

For our order, buy within its start window, save the email and install after landing on working airport Wi-Fi after sign-in. Hotel Wi-Fi is the fallback. Select the travel line for data with home-line data roaming and automatic switching off.

Our South Korea-only offers don't include Japan. If you're continuing across the water, compare an explicitly inclusive regional option or separate Japan data, and save ferry/ticket information offline. Country inclusion doesn't promise a connection across the sea.
