You might be happy to save a few dollars on Japan data, or quite happy to pay them to keep a connection after the faster allowance is gone. Both are reasonable choices. The useful starting point is the same holiday on both sides of the comparison, including any laptop you expect to bring.

Give the holiday a budget before choosing the price
For an imagined ten-day visit, take an assumed 0.7GB a day plus 1GB spare. That comes to 8GB, so either 10GB allowance leaves 2GB beyond the stated budget.

Our A$19.95 purchase is A$5.05 below Travelkon’s A$25. Travelkon’s selected NTT Docomo offer explicitly supports hotspot and continues at 200kbps once the faster data is spent; our fixed offer stops when spent and its sharing depends on phone and network. Ubigi’s US$16.50 display is in USD, so it needs a final AUD comparison and any card-conversion cost before a price decision.
For the stated phone-data budget, our offer can be a sensible lower-priced choice. Travelkon can earn its extra cost when its confirmed sharing support or continuing connection is something you want to use.
What the slower connection leaves you with
Travelkon’s 200kbps continuation isn’t another 10GB at the original speed. Images and larger pages take longer to load, with app behaviour and coverage still affecting what works. Have maps, tickets and media downloaded before you need them, rather than leaving a time-critical transfer for that fallback.
Ubigi’s unlimited products use their own daily or whole-plan thresholds. A published 2Mbps continuation on one of those products doesn’t give the separate fixed 10GB plan the same treatment, so keep the allowance type with the number you’re comparing.
Keep redemption close enough to arrival
Travelkon gives the redemption code 180 days after purchase, then gives the QR code 15 days once redeemed. Its selected plan starts when it connects to a supported network. That leaves two stages to organise: time available to redeem, and time available to use the QR you’ve already obtained.
Redeem on 1 November for a December arrival and that fifteen-day QR window won’t fit. Keep the redemption step close enough to the intended installation, following the instructions attached to your own Travelkon order.
Our quoted Japan plan instead has 60 days from purchase to start, followed by its separate 30-day running period. For our purchase, save the email and install after landing on working airport or hotel Wi-Fi, within that selected start window.
If it’s the laptop that needs a different plan
For a stated 10GB sharing requirement over seven days, our A$24.95 Japan 10Mbps unlimited offer won’t fit: it allows 6GB of hotspot in total. Our A$34.95 seven-day full-speed unlimited offer has no separate hotspot allowance and meets that stated sharing amount, subject to the phone, network and selected terms. Changing the word on the plan from fixed to unlimited isn’t enough to choose between them.
If the phone can’t use eSIM at all, Travelkon and SimCorner also sell physical SIMs. Allow delivery time and compare that physical product’s own inclusions rather than buying an eSIM the handset can’t use.
And if you already own a Travelkon profile that won’t connect, leave it installed and use its order-specific support first. The current Japan instructions include a manual Android APN and a different network from the older listing, so copy the settings from that order. Buying a new service can be a separate decision once you know what happened to the one you paid for.
